Okay. I love me some Martha Jones and if she wins this round I will be 100% behind her to win it all. But I want to take a sec to talk in earnest about one of the main reasons I'm backing Joan. None of this has to do with Martha specifically, I think she has her own cool arc with the Doctor, I'm definitely not hating on her, etc. These feelings are separate from Martha. Cool? Cool.

Yes! That is my favorite thing about their dynamic. Sure, Sherlock thinks he's the smartest person in the room (he is), but he REALLY respects Joan, not just for what she can do in her own fields (though that, too), but for what she can do in HIS field.

I would NEVER. I adore Doctor Who and Sherlock (and House, even if I did give up in later seasons) and like those relationships and characters for their own reasons. But I'm just so pleased with Elementary for taking what could have been another repeat of the same dynamic and really flipping it on its head in a way that makes perfect sense for the characters as they portray them.
