Actually, I was granted Swedish citizenship way back in 2020. However, the official celebration/recognition ceremony arranged by the municipality that was supposed to take place the following year, in June 2021, got cancelled because of the still ongoing pandemic.

I was expected to take part in the 2022 ceremony instead but the invite came too late, after I had already planned to be away traveling on this specific date. Meaning that 2022 became a miss, too.

And then finally I got a chance to participate in the 2023 ceremony, celebrating my Swedish passport that is almost three years old now.

The event itself was nothing really special to be truly honest but still memorable nonetheless.

To say that becoming a Swedish citizen meant a great deal to me would be a hell of an understatement as in reality it meant so much more. To be able to acknowledge and commemorate it was a nice touch.

These ceremonies are always held on the 6th of June which is The National Day of Sweden. By the way, this year's National Day also marked 500 years of Sweden as an independent nation.

Heja Sverige!
