Tonight's Topic: Halloween

Yes, that's right; the topic I can't stop thinking about this evening is Halloween.  How excited am I?  VERY!  I think the thing that got me started today was listening to Timo Maas's "Help Me" in the car today with my dad.  He pointed out that the music they sampled in the background is from the movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still.  So, I decided to download the soundtrack when I got home.

It's funny, there's an electronic  instrument that old Sci-Fi/Horror flix used to use called the Theremin.  Here's how it works (thanks to the Wikipedia):

  • ...the theremin generates an audio signal by combining two different but very high frequency radio signals. The capacitance of the human body close to the antennas causes pitch changes in the audio signal, in much the same way that a person moving about a room can affect television or radio reception. By changing the position of the hands relative to the vertical antenna, a performer can control the frequency of the output signal. Similarly, the amplitude of the signal can be affected by altering the hand's proximity to the looped antenna.

Crazy, huh?  If you heard the noise it makes, you'd recognize it.  Think ghost noise - very wobbly/vibrato - sounds much like a tremelo sine wave.  Anyway, they've used it in many old and newer movies, such as Mars Attacks.  It dates back to 1919 and was one of the first electronic instruments ever made.

Back to Hallowen - oooh, so excited.  I want to go to a party and probably to a club.  Also need to stop by some haunted houses and maybe try to get to Halloweekends this year at Cedar Point.  This halloween has to be extra good since I missed Halloween last year due to flight attendant training.

YAY, okay, time to try & get some rest as usual...night!
