According to People, the "Survivor: Africa" winner is battling a rare form the disease called CD20-positive Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Months of unexplained skin irritations and night sweats lead to an initial diagnosis of stage two Hodgkin's disease on April 30, after a swollen lymph node was found under his left clavicle and a mass detected on the left side of his chest.
Then last week, he found out it was CD20-positive Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Ethan began chemotherapy last Friday, the mag reported.
"This is the ultimate game of Survivor," Ethan told the mag, "and there's really only one outcome, and that's to win. There's no other option."
His rare form of Hodgkin's can have a survival rate as high as 90 percent and will reportedly be treated with a more-aggressive, three-month chemotherapy plan. "They're going right after this," he said.
Ethan's girlfriend, "Survivor: The Amazon" winner Jenna Morasca, 27, told the mag she will be with him for every step of the battle. "I will fight with every fabric of my being to get him through this," she said.
Ethan is expected to lose his trademark curly hair within two weeks, but said he looks forward to showing off a new look. "My hair is my identity," he said. But explained he doesn't want to find "long, disgusting Ethan Zohn hair all over my house.
