The fallout

Mar 15, 2011 08:40

Whilst the Tsunami was shocking and saddening, the fear from the possible nuclear fallout is almost paralysing.

I fear that the side effects from such an event will have dire consequences.

For me personally it has caused me to go to bed late and get up early each day. At least visiting my girlfriend and going hiking yesterday helped lift some of the stress.
My location in Japan is about 800km southwest from the Fukushima power plant but that will be no protection from a Chernobyl type fall out especially if the wind is blowing towards us.

Of more immediate concern is my trip to Switzerland in a week's time. I'm due to fly to Tokyo Haneda airport and then travel through the city towards Narita Airport. Despite the news that the airports are operating again there is a real risk that aftershocks + fallout will close them all down again and leave me stranded. I'll speak to my travel agent today and see if I can get a flight directly to Narita Airport.
