A few random photos from the past two weeks or so...
Tristan, capturing some of the action at a friends dinner party last Saturday. He has pledged to take his camera with him more often cuz he keeps a blog now. (Shhhh...it's a secret blog.) BTW, this was shot with the
Demb Flip-It w/diffuser. I dig the contours it creates in close quarters, but still prefer the overall quality of light thrown by the
Lightsphere.
The photo's a little fuzzy, but that's Nicole from Michigan, who dropped into town unannounced last weekend. She joined us at a friends house Saturday and is also a photographer with a day job: she works as a social worker for refugees.
Going back a ways...
Two Friday's ago, the second night of Josh and Melissa's stay with us, we, along with my friends Bernadette and Bob (pictured above) met up with
projectsen and some of his friends for dinner at El Jardin Cafe and then drinks. Bob is a sound engineer for movies and documentaries, and is working on his own piece. He decided to bring along his sweet high-def cam so he could get in on the acts of photo nerdom.
projectsen Also from dinner at El Jardin. Sen recently posted photos from last Monday's b-day dinner for Josh along with amusing commentary so check it out if you like. I don't have any photos of that dinner because I prefer to live IN the moment and don't take my camera with me everywhere I go like SOME people do. ha. (Ok, fine. YES, I wish I'd brought my camera that night...damn!)
Anyway, so a bunch of photography friends made plans to meet on the lake at 6:30AM the following Saturday morning (I'm losing my timeline a little, but this recap is still about two weeks ago) to photograph the sunrise. Since it was already so late/early (pushing 2AM by that point) Bernie, Bob and I decided to try to stay awake the rest of the night/morning. Josh/Melissa, Sen and the rest were more than happy to lend a hand in Operation No Doze, but somewhere around 3:30, I was beyond spent. Bernie promised to wake me up in time for the sunrise, and that she did. OMG. She called at 5:55AM! On a Saturday. I slid out of bed and back into the clothes I'd taken off barely two hours ago, careful not to wake Tristan (or Josh and Melissa...though I ran into a groggy-though-lucid-enough-to-utter-"not a chance in hell I'm going with you...MUST SLEEEEEP"-or-something-like-that Josh on his way to the guest bath...), and left to meet the group on the lakefront. It was a good turn out considering the time and frigid temps (about seven folks showed up.) Unfortunately, it was too cloudy that day for decent shots of the sunrise, so I took photos mostly of the group. But not very good ones. lol. Not too surprising considering I was basically the walking dead.
Brrrrrr. Bob interviewing Adam (off camera) for his short documentary examining perspectives on global warming. That's Ron snapping away. He and I were having dinner a few weeks ago and, as you might expect, a huge chunk of our conversation was about photography. Our young waiter (very easy on the eyes) was being a bit weird around us and we were like "WTF? Creepy!" As we were preparing to leave, though, he came over to us and said awkwardly, "So, do you guys need help with anything?" We had no idea what he was referring to and he must have realized this because he immediately explained that he's a photography student at Columbia and wants to meet other photographers, which is a sad commentary on the state of the student body at Columbia. Indeed, I've heard it said that one should not attend Columbia expecting to make friends/socialize/hangout/whatever. An old friend is currently attending Columbia and she confirms the anti-social climate. Really, folks...what's the point? Anyway, I basically answered "Not really", but we exchanged numbers anyway. I guess Ron and I sounded very official...
More from the Music Garage event last Friday.
OMG, we're soooooooooooo artsy fartsy! Haha. Just kidding. They were cool...and very helpful...
The fabulous international superstar vocalist, Madame Martha!
OMG...torture. I can't even describe the sound that came out of her mouth. But it wasn't singing. It wasn't vocal dissonance. I'm not sure what it was, but my ears didn't like it. The whole thing was very disconcerting. Thank god for the free wine.
Yes, folks, that's
theamazingjosh. He quite liked Martha, though I'm sure this was mostly because she was so interesting to photograph.
