I love my life right now. This quarter is amazing so far. Yes, it is only the first week, but that doesn't matter. I adore my classes and my professors. None of my classes start before 10:30, so I have later days than I tend to like, but it gives me a chance to get to the gym in the mornings so I feel pretty good the rest of the day. It's remarkable how empty it is at eight in the morning.
As for my classes, I have an upper level non-ruminant nutrition class with one of the roommates, a global agriculture class, and a grad-level psych. And it's not just any psych, oh no, it's Psychology of Monkeys and Apes!! I am SO FRICKIN' EXCITED FOR THIS CLASS IT REQUIRES I TYPE IN CAPS! In all seriousness, though, it's fantastic. It's pretty much what I want to do with my life, and I really couldn't be happier with it unless there was a lab component to actually get some hands-on experience. The professor who teaches it is totally batshit insane (Google Sally Boysen if you're curious), but in a lot of the same ways that I am, so it's a blast. I'm so enthralled by this class that I've spent nearly all of my free time reading ahead in my texts. Love.
On to things outside of class, I registered for hockey at the beginning of this week. The draft was on Wednesday night and took forever. Since the roommate and I got there a bit late (and by late I mean half an hour early), the only timeslots left were for 1:15 in the morning. So we play ridiculously late at night, but that's counteracted by the fact that we play for the Cougars. I found it suitably appropriate. Another fun fact about intramural hockey, we were informed that the playoff games will be played at Nationwide. I'm really not sure what to think about this. It's incredibly hard to believe that it's true, but they said it matter-of-factly and didn't say anything about it being a joke, so uh...? Either way, my first hockey game is in about three days and I have no idea what to expect, other than a hell of a lot of fun.
At another point this week, the roommate and I went ice skating on Mirror Lake. I was wildly excited. Now, in order to get to Mirror Lake from my apartment, we have to walk along High Street, and since it was night the drunks, skanks, and party-seekers were out. It is absolutely fantastic to receive double or even triple-takes from people for walking down the street with hockey sticks and ice skates. When we got to the pond, there were already about six guys playing a game of shinny. They were kind of excited to see us, which I thought was great since we didn't know any of them. The boys were nice enough to let us use their shovel to scrape off our own section of the pond to play on, and even let us shoot on their net a bit. It was so so SO much fun. I'm a TERRIBLE shot, but my puckhandling got better as the night went on, and I'm apparently an absolute bitch in the corners. Pretty sure if I actually played hockey I'd be one of the third or fourth line grinders. No real talent, no skills, but a hell of a lot of heart and a bit of aggression. I'm just upset that we aren't allowed to make any contact with people in IM hockey. I have hips of doom, and when fighting along the boards I can put them to fantastic use. Anyway, we got to play for maybe an hour before someone called the cops on us. The police showed up and yelled at us to get off the ice, then sat on the road with spotlights on us until we left. I was pissed. I even brought out the special curses, which had the guys laughing.
Expect a ridiculous entry sometime this week chronicling the first game. It should be fun.
