Damn. I take 2 months off from writing in this thing and all of the sudden everyone gets their panties in a wad. Relax people. I've been busy. Since I last updated, let's see what's happened. Got nominated for IFC Treasurer and 2 Cabinet positions within FIJI, got accepted into the honor society Alpha Lambda Delta (quick note coming in a second), will probably be joining Pi Sigma Epsilon, a business fraternity, in the spring, hung out with the FIJIs, and learned that Shawn Meier and I are close to unbeatable in the fine game of beer pong. Anyway, back to the Alpha Lambda Delta thing. It's an honor socitey where if you got over a 3.5 GPA any semester of your freshman year, you can become a part of it. Well it never struck me until this year that I did indeed fulfill the requirements. I asked Jamie, who just happens to be the President about it. He e-mailed the lady in charge of the whole thing, complete with forwarding my e-mail which asked if ALD discriminates against Mexicans, and she wrote me back. Apparently, I had too many incoming credits and the computer system overlooked me because it showed that I was a sophomore. The reason I had so many incoming credits is because I took a ton of AP classes in high school. So let's recap this. As a result of me taking high honor clases in high school, it apparently made me unqualified to gain acceptance to ALD on time. Yeah, makes a lot of sense to me too. Needless to say, initiation is this Sunday and I will be there for it. The only bad thing is that it's a day after formal which is in Indy. Oh well.
I hate Notre Dame. Seriously. I never really disliked them until I came here, but EVERYONE here is a ND fan and it irritates the hell out of me. I now get more pleasure out of an Irish loss than an Ohio State win. Of course, the crowning acheivement of the season came a few weeks ago during the ND-USC game. With 2:03 left in the game, after ND scored to take the lead, I turned to Shawn and said loud enough for only him to hear, "USC is going to win. ND left them too much time." I wasn't worried on the 4th and 9 play. And I certainly wasn't worried when Leinart CLEARLY fumbled the ball out of bounds with 7 seconds left in the game. Now that I think back on it, that moment may be the highlight of my college football watching life. I was in a room filled with 20 ND fans, watched them celebrate like they had won the national title, and remained seated on the couch calmly waiting for them to reverse the simple call. 4 seconds later: Touchdown USC. Game over. Hearts crushed. Tears shed. And I just turned to Shawn and simply said "Told ya."
On to the events of this weekend. Ball State has some true geniuses working in their scheduling department. Last year, Parents' Weekend was on Halloween, one of the notoriously big party days of the year in college. This year, they decide to have it 2 weeks after fall break, so I've seen my parents now twice in the past 3 weeks. Not that it's a bad thing, but spacing things out should be looked at next year. Anyway, my parents came up on Friday night. You know what's a mistake? Having your parents coming up on a Friday because there is NO ONE HERE! We went to Olive Garden and Best Buy before coming back to the dorm for a little bit. They went back to the hotel. Wasted Friday.
Saturday on the other hand, well that's a different story completely. Went to tailgating with everyone which was a good time as usual. Seeing parents doing beer pongs and being hammered...always a plus. Christy, Liz, and Candice wanted to meet Mike and Fay, so we actually attended the BSU game for about 15 minutes. By the way, BSU is currently on a 2 game winning streak, and yes, that is grounds to celebrate in Muncie. Anyway, we went to Texas Roadhouse in Anderson for dinner with the Beaths and Mynesbergs. Good times. Came back to the dorm, and Fay and Mike got to meet Manny Pie and Stephy Pie (I apologize for that nickname Steph, really). After that is pretty much when the fun started.
I've had a cold for a few days now. Obviously, it's probably not the most genius idea to drink a lot. I went out with the mindset I'd have a few, but not too many keeping in mind that I was going to 9:00 mass this morning. What idea went out the window fast? That one. We went out at 9:30. Upon entering, I had a tall boy. The keg was tapped at 10:00. I immediately played one game of beer pong, then had probably 4-5 cups before midnight. At that point, I thought that I was done for the night. Not by a long shot. Kimble, my pseudo Big Bro since Dobbs lives in Colorado, decided to get me my Big Sis. And it was none other than Liz! Can we say Best Big Sis EVER? Yeah, we can. How often do you get to say you went to a dance (FIJI Isle) with your Big Sis and not have it sound like a West Virginia prom? As my gift, she got me a 6 pack of my favorite beer in the world: Modelo Especial. If you've never had this fine Mexican import, you have not lived. It is phenomenal. Of course, I couldn't let that go undrunk (it's a word, look it up). I HAD to have 5 of the 6.
