Question 1: Why would a dining hall offer, as one of their carbohydrate options (the other being french fries), a dish of completely plain bow-tie pasta, with no sauces or cheese to be had anywhere, and without even the option of mixing the pasta with a stew of some sort?
Question 2: Why would I purchase and eat said pasta?
The common answer to both: "desperation"
