#1 - it was Swiss National Day yesterday, commemorating the founding of the Swiss Confederation (there's another offical German name for it), between 3 original cantons in 1291. There are now 26 cantons in Switzerland, (Confederation Helvetica) and that's why the country's abbreviation is "CH". We had the day off of work, but the fireworks and local celebrations were all the night before, so it was pretty quiet. However, a basic rule of arithmetic that I learned: bratwurst + mustard + beer + bread + chocolate covered fruit + cotton candy + garlic bread + candied almonds + 1 hour of sitting around for fireworks = stomach discomfort.
#2 - I managed to crack a lightbulb in my refrigerator yesterday - I had to de-frost the little freezer compartment because a bunch of stuff had gotten iced in, and I dripped cold water on the (hot) bulb. It developed a crack due to the thermal stress, and air got in and oxidized the shit out of the filament. It's actually pretty cool - there's a pattern of oxidation radiating out from the crack. I'm vaguely proud of having to do random household puttering-around tasks. That is all.
