Münster is 1 hour train-ride away from Gronau / border to Netherlands. It's also known as "the bicycle capital" of Germany - which is not a big surprise considering the fact it is so close to the border of Netherlands (the bicycle country), haha.
Münster, Germany
We spent an entire day visiting the city of Münster, which is a very old German city, with lots of beautiful architecture, cathedrals and churches, and beautiful cobblestone-streets (булыжник). It was really rainy, and freezing cold, and we all dressed pretty badly for the weather because we tried to pack light clothes, to save room for moving my friend's things. A little mistake... but at least we managed to move her things. We walked around all day, sightseeing, shopping, and visiting a few cathedrals and churches in the city centre.
My friend who lives in Germany recommended this cozy little German pub (photo above), where we decided to order some traditional German food and beer! Their German beer was delicious!! I ordered a Wienerschnitzel, which is my favourite German dish, and my friend had a German traditional sausage. We all ordered an Apfelstrudel for dessert, which is basically a traditional German apple pie, really delicious and recommended. All the waiters and waitresses wore traditional German outfits, like the ones you see in Oktoberfest! Really cozy and nice place, with old traditional German architecture and furniture, as well as a fireplace - good escape from the rainy thunderstorm outside... :D I don't think I have ever drunk so much beer in a small amount of time as I did in Germany!
Menu from Drübbelfen, Münster - the cozy little pub!
The pub from the outside. :)
Another pub "Stuhlmacher", that we did not visit, but loved the sign!
One of the main streets in Münster.
Beautiful German cathedrals and churches - very impressive for such a small city!
I have always been really fascinated by coloured / stained glass windows, especially in churches and cathedrals of all sorts - I always pay a lot of attentiion to them when I travel.
And here are some photos of different beautiful things I found:
Hope you enjoyed seeing a small glimpse of Münster - and if you have any recommendations about other places in Germany I should visit in the future, please leave your suggestions in the comments! Next post will be about Netherlands / Enschede - although we did not spend very much time here; I will share some photos and small experiences. :)
