Got back MST and E&M results!
Still remember I mentioned that I hope I will pass MST and MSE? Well, I passed MST!!! Results were really really unexpected and the kind of satisfaction and happiness that I derived from the grades I got for this module really makes me feel like my studying paid off. I haven't had this feeling for a long time. Maybe since I improved my GP during Alvls. Really happy with this module, the most effort I felt that I've put in for. I was thinking between a moderate fail or just a pass but I didn't expect something slightly above the average.
E&M was disappointing for me because I felt that quite a number of them did very well and well, my whole class passed and that means the paper wasn't difficult. But still I felt that maybe I should have done abit better.... but then again lah, I used only a few days to study this module because 1) really don't like it 2) I forced myself to memorise the answer, though it became rather interesting in the end...I'm satisfied though.
B told me about this teacher he had and as a listener, I'm already quite disgusted with what he has done and what he has said. As a teacher, an educator, he shouldn't even be saying and doing all these. Got a few good points why I'm so disgusted with this teacher even though I'm usually neutral. He made our CT ex-tutor look tame. But at least Dr.T was still in the nice and friendly and tried his best to help us category.
Slamming book shut as questions were being asked after lesson
Imagine, after lesson, we have all the question marks in our heads and then going up the the lecturer to clarify doubts and all the lecturer did was to slam the book shut as a sign of indication that he wants to leave already. Not slammed shut once. But quite a few times as I've heard. Student opens back book, lecturer closed it. Imagine that a few times repeatedly? Okay, even if he did reply the question, let's just say, it was not to the question directly itself. 1st sign of incompetence, because all he wants to do is just escape. Escape from where? Perhaps from letting the students know that he's not good in this module. Or perhaps to drink his fruit punch.
Appealing of results resulted in sarcasms and excuses.
This appeal story is a long one.
In the first place, an appeal was filed due to the discrepancy in marks given for different students. Like for one question, student A could be getting full marks but student B was minused a mark for what, I don't know, when both the answers are IDENTICAL, mind you. Lecturer's reply on it was vague and not justifiable at all, saying things like "you copied your friend?", "oh whose paper is it? I go mark him down.", "Oh I followed the answer scheme..", "your sentence structure was wrong"....... Instead of justifying his reasons for not giving the same marks, he said those words. As I listened to this story, I felt so indignant. But this goes to show that the lecturer was guilty. He probably just wanted to find a scapegoat to fail this module. Guess how we know it? We saw many overwritings and cancellation of marks and many of it was really atrocious. It's like a student could have passed but yet all the lecturer wants to do is to just FAIL A STUDENT.
An appeal should be wherby the student files and appeal and the lecturer looks through the paper once more to see if the student deserves more marks right? But no, in this case I supposed the lecturer is even too lazy to read through it. And when asked how and what can be done to further improve for the following retake paper, lecturer somehow just avoided that. I mean, at least if you're not giving more marks, why can't you at least say where the mistake was???? The ironic thing was that the circle he circled on the words were not the ones which were wrong. WHICH PERSON IN THE RIGHT MIND CIRCLES SOMETHING WHICH IS CORRECT??? LIKE HELLO, CIRCLING THE WORDS ETC MEANS THE ANSWER IN WRONG!!! And wrong sentence structure and following answer scheme is just a load of crap and bullshit. In exams, marks are given for KEY POINTS!! We're not going to be tested for our grammer or english. So long the key point is there, why can't he be more flexible??? Seriously!! Follow answer scheme? Ya right, follow already he also mark it wrong!! Or did he mean, follow word for word on answer scheme? If so, I would say this lecturer has just shown his second sign of incompetence at setting exam papers for uni levels. Answer scheme is for reference!!
The last straw had to be that he insulted the student? "You probably didn't only fail this module right?" "Everyone in your class passed except you. It's such an easy paper. Means you didn't study." That's really horrible. Teachers are supposed to encourage students to do better, not demean them like this. Seriously, I feel that this lecturer ought to be prosecuted. And as he does comparison between a uni of maybe 800 students taking a module, probably 400 will fail and he cannot to attend to anyone of them. I would like to shoot him this, "Hello, you're in ___, not ___."
It's sad how SG's education system exists such a person wherby he does nothing but condemn a student. If you feel so reluctant to give the marks, then why even meet up? If it's all for an act, a show, may I ask, who is it for? It's a regret that such a person be allowed to be an educator, be allowed to even teach in university. I've never in my whole life encounter such a teacher with such warped values. Character stems from the way people do things and this lecturer showed me that since he's incapable of justifying his act of anyhow-minusing-marks, I supposed his character does not deserve any respect from his students.
okay end of my angry post. gonna go sleep.
well, this lecturer better watch out.
