There's a sign with the Samaritans number on along Beachy Head somewhere, but it's where the ice cream vans stop and where everyone goes and NOT THE PLACE YOU'D GO TO DO YOURSELF IN. I do not understand.
wow. just, holy fuck! that's an incredible piece...
and the answer to the question is no. it is not so much a question of weak will as the type of will. the will and drive to survive is possibly the strongest of our fundamental urges and, if faced with a choice between a man forcing himself upon me or death, i would pick the former.
the "jump" thing is a metaphor, it's not a literal jump to death, but rather a risk, because it makes a spectacle of yourself. it could result in some physical harm, or maybe just some name-calling, or nothing at all. that's situation dependant. but it will always be harder than going with the man.
Honestly, I wouldn't jump. It's not a question of strength of character but parallel to a woman's want to be dominated (I think every woman has the desire to be dominated to a certain extent), it's the feeling of having a man want to protect you as well as engaging in a sexual act. Most women have that inherent weakness of surrendering their entire being to a man who gives one hell of a chase, it affirms that they want you enough. Although this may not necessarily be the case, most women console themselves into interpreting it this way.
I pretty much think your line of thinking is accurate. as is said in the story, 90% of the women in the world don't jump. which is because women do want to be dominated, generally. it explains why the archetype/bad-boy/arsehole man gets the girl.
I was a bit repulsed by the idea to begin with, to be honest. But then I thought about it a bit and figured it's probably true! But, then again, maybe it's more of a human trait than a female trait? Would just as many men enjoy being dominated like that by women?

You already know my opinions and intuitions when it comes to this subject, so I won't bore you with those.
What a fantastic piece of writing, though. I'll be stopping by your journal again tomorrow to check out what your other lj friends think.

whereas 10% of women would jump, 10% of men would allow themselves to be dominated. such men do exist, but are in the minority.
