“Hey, Al. I heard you and the new girl were talking today.” Matthew began, setting down his bag by the couch. Alfred glanced over at him, feet propped up by the coffee table. Every other day seemed to be Alfred-lounges-in-any-apartment-that’s-not-his day, and as annoying as his brother could be, Matthew enjoyed the company while his father was away. It was their chance to talk about things, and today was one of those days in which girls were brought up.
Alfred sighed, pouting. “Yeah, I was. What about it?”
Raising an eyebrow, Matthew sat on the couch next to him, hugging his stuffed bear close. “What’s she like?”
A distinct flush of red whipped over Alfred’s cheeks. “She’s nice.”
“Just nice?”
“…Pretty cool, too.”
“That’s it?”
Alfred groaned and bopped Matthew’s head with his fist. “Jeez, why don’t you just talk to her yourself if you’re gonna be such a pain about it!”
Matthew feebly attempted to hit Alfred in return just as hard, but judging from how Alfred didn’t appear to have taken notice of the “hit,” failed. He sighed, settling back into the couch cushions. “She’s not in my grade, it’s hard to get to know people.” And before Alfred could snap out a response, he added, “Isn’t she from Vietnam? Her English is fantastic.”
A small glare and another groan had made for a disgruntled Alfred, who followed Matthew’s example in becoming glued to the cushions. “Yeah, yeah, and her name’s probably hell to pronounce.”
This had Matthew’s eyebrows knitting together. “Wait, you don’t know her name?” he exclaimed. Alfred flushed again, crossing his arms and refusing to look at the other blonde.
“Her name was…! Well…she wouldn’t tell me. So I just called her Charlie.”
Matthew rubbed the bridge of his nose and murmured something in French. “Alfred…that’s not how you…oh, never mind.”
“That’s not how you what?”
“It doesn’t matter! Papa would have to tell you!”
“W-wait is this about me and picking up girls?”
“…Like I said, Papa would have to tell you.”
