well tonight there were auditions for the Mozart Requiem. Sheronda, Maria, John G., and Myself will be the solo quartet for the performance this May. I really am excited... we performed the Recordare a few times together, including at Maria's recital... and now we get to do the whole thing!
April 6th at 2pm in Ardrey, NAU Opera will perform G.F. Handels Serse in Italian. I will play the part of Ariodate, General to King Serse.
I auditioned for a small role this semester... i wanted my last performance with NAU to be fun... not stressful. and my senior recital is in the same month so it made sense not to want to kill myself.
things are going rough with the show this year... i guess they always do, but this time i am really disappointed with the responses of the other cast members, particularly the grad students. they come to our school with no prior roles and then go off about how it is so much better at other schools... well frankly i cant respect the opinions of graduate students who dont know what they are talking about. because if they did, they wouldnt come to NAU for a graduate degree in music. we are a small school with a small program and a small budget and they should have known that when they applied. they need to re-evaluate their situation and realize that the reason they are here is because there werent any other choices.
dont get me wrong, I am really proud of my school. I have been given amazing opportunities that would not have existed at a larger university. It was the perfect choice for my undergraduate career... Graduate school however is another story. it really is unbelievable when you compare the incoming grad students to the existing undergrads. i am not just referencing talent, but general knowledge of music and work ethics. when a junior comes to rehearsal completely memorized while a grad student has to look at a score there is no excuse... i dont mean to bad mouth ALL grad students.. there are just some i could do with out. there are a lot of people at this school who work very hard to make it all work only to have under accomplished assholes shit talking! *grumble*
I decided today that i want to go to Indiana University... thank you Caleb... or rather Kim for telling me of Caleb's wonderful exploits in the mid-west. i am dreading the midwest.... but i already cant wait. a real school with real money and real sets and real talent and real EVERYTHING! ok so im getting carried away. i need to do my research and actually get IN before i get too excited.
i didn't go anywhere special but spring break was still a blast. it was donnys birthday and a bunch of us went to Sapporo, a teppanyaki grill in phx, snuck our way into a comedy club to see Charlie Murphy, and then went over to a Maloneys near by and got wasted. i hung out with krissy and kyle very briefly and spent time with my family. the original family was there... just my siblings and my mom. It was the first time just the 5 of us had been together in a while, you know without kids and spouses.
i am being asked to sing at a couple peoples weddings... its kinda cool! problem is they all ask me to decide how much i would like to be paid... and i have no frikkin idea.... anyone have any input??
