How-to: Blending

Jan 16, 2007 20:18

Here is a little article I wrote about blending...

Blending

What is it?Blending is the art of mixing different colors (whether still similar in hue or on completely opposite sides of the color wheel) to create a gradient of color, not a muddying mess that obliterates the vibrancy and trueness of the individual colors used to create a particular ( Read more... )

"I won't use matte eyeshadows or anything non-mac, I won't line my upper lid 'cause I hate it, and I won't do anything avant garde but all other suggestions are welcome!!!"
I've been watching this community for a while and it seems that you do the same shimmery style quite a lot. I don't know all that much about makeup, but I know what looks good. I haven't noticed any of your pictures referring to a blending style. What's with that?
I've also noticed that you try to do tutorials and instruct everyone else on their eyeshadow looks. Not everybody likes what you do. How many butterflies were murdered in the process of looking so hideous? Simple. Clean. Makeup. Looks best. I don't see why you girls insist on looking like drag queens.

if you dont like it why the fuck are you here? she likes shimmer, she found a brand she likes... but she also wrote an entire paragraph in that article about the value of drugstore brands if you find they work well. why would a picture refer to a "blending style"? and she does tutorials because WE REQUEST THEM FROM HER. She's not "trying to instruct" anyone, she is lending help (very generously!) when others ask. you think simple clean makeup looks best... uh, cool? go make a damn "simple clean makeup" community. and enjoy it. we won't go there bitching that you don't use enough shimmer. so don't come here bitching that some people here are into dramatic looks. get over yourself and the fact that different people have different tastes.

Thanks :) LOL, who knew that helping would get someone upset with me! If I thought I was any sort of authority, I'd be tryin' to make some moola off it!

Funny... I use matte eyeshadows all the time. Why do I have to use non-MAC if I like it? lol. I've lined my upper lid - I've given it a chance, I've tried it. You clearly have a personal taste in makeup, so I don't see why I have to follow yours over mine either? I've also done a handful of "avant garde" looks, or at least tried to do them.

I do tutorials and whatnot because people have asked me to do them. If someone likes what I do, that's great, and if I can help them, even better.

LOL! What are you doing in a community called eyeshadowSLUTS if you want simple "tasteful" makeup? Nothing wrong with simple looks - I do them often enough, but this is not exactly the place to come for that.

In response to the last part,
but what'd you mean "this is not exactly the place to come for that."?
The community is for anyone that loves eyeshadow.
That includes simple looks.

I don't recall seeing anything that said this isn't the place for simple, tasteful looks.

This community was created specifically for all the hot girls & boys out there who are absolutely just what the community name implies -- Eyeshadow sluts! Everyone who is obsessed with eyeshadow application and technique is of course, welcome to join

Sorry, I tried to stay out of this lj-drama, but that line bothered me.

I always figured the title was similar to any other "slut." Hell, I'm called a cherry slut around here 'cause I have so many cherry-related things.

Like Alex is a Pepsi slut. *continues collecting empty soda cans..*

it doesn't mean slutty, outrageous makeup.

and tell Alex coke is better ;)

Let's see YOUR stuff, then. Go on, I'm curious. Let's see the work YOU'VE done to earn the right to be so needlessly crassly b!tchy to someone who's an active and helpful member of a friendly and open community.

temptalia is one of the most prolific, helpful, considerate and kind posters in this community and a real asset to us all. If her style's not your style, fine.....

.... but your rudeness is inexcusable, and throwing around comments about drag queens isn't exactly helping your cause.... it's just making you look pathetic and stupid.

Oh, and re: your comment that temptalia is trying to "instruct everyone else on their eyeshadow"..... what's wrong with trying to share makeup tips and help others in a friendly, positive manner?

YOUR comments about makeup sound a lot like YOU are are the one trying "instruct everyone else" actually and foist your opinions on others in a narrow-minded fashion, luv ("Simple. Clean. Makeup Looks best.") - temptalia's always open to suggestions and you've even quoted her here as being such.

Hahaha, I thought the "pathetic and stupid" part was accusing her of mass butterfly genocide. At least if she's a murderer she's a lovely and well made-up one. :)

Unfortunately there are a lot of people who do agree with letbulletsrain's conmment, although I'm sure they would've said it in a more positive manner or not said anything at all.

I do feel everyone has a right to opinion even if it is that they themselves don't like what someone else does be it on several eyeshadow looks or just one in particular. I also feel they should try to say it as politely as possible and even offer their own suggestions on what they feel would improve something. The bad thing about that though is a lot of people are either closed-minded (both about their suggestions or what's being suggested on) and tend to be out-right and rude about it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the comment was slightly rude, but not entirely unwelcome. There are more people than you'd think you have a lot of complaints about temptalia. I'm not sure if she'd rather have it kept to private discussions elsewhere or if she'd like to know what is really being said about her ( ... )

And dear god, please don't throw hissy fits about that comment.

No hissy fit thrown. I didn't at ALL take issue with the poster not liking temptalia's style or technique. My own opinion is that I like some things she does lots, others less well.... and that is my own opinion which I am entitled to, as is anyone who posts here. But I really admire her (and yourself actually) for being really active posters who make this community lively and fun, and are helpful to other members. And I don't see how telling ANY member of an open makeup community that they're hideous or look like a drag queen is helpful or excusable in ANY way, shape or fashion.

There's makeup communities like wickedhotmakeup on LJ where you have to submit pictures and get voted in, which I've considered joining, but I stick with eyeshadowsluts because I actively *like* the fact it's open to all, and that the general tone is encouraging and supportive of ANYONE who's got a passion for makeup, regardless of their level of experience. Posts like letbulletsrain just make me very sad, that's all.... I'm not someone who posts pics of my makeup (primarily cos I'm a whole ( ... )

Rating communities, in my opinion, are just excuses for the elitists to feel high and mighty and to get sick enjoyment out of turning down anyone who doesn't fit their particular style or skill level. I've seen applications for those, most people say they want to join to learn more things and are told very rudeley that they basically suck ( ... )
