Before I’m going to tell you all about what’s been keeping me away from LJ for so long:

Thank you, my lovely friends, for thinking of my bday!
Please don’t be mad with me, serendipity, secretsolitaire, pumagrrl, veritas03, demicus, fancypantsdylan, for not responding to your nice and warm bday-wishes sooner. I haven’t checked my inbox since what seems ages. Actually, I almost forgot my bday, four tiny noses ( Read more... )

Thank you demicus, for your encouraging reply. *hugs* I’m sure you understand why I’m replying late; still I’m staying with the bunnies in the barn each spare moment.

I see that you understood completely how I’m feeling: I took the four abused noses as a birthday present. What can be more amazing as getting the chance to help the helpless? And believe me, I’m taking it very serious. It’s kind of a personal challenge - responsibility was assigned, and by no way I want to fail. Maybe it sounds idiotic, but I have the feeling that it was meant to happen that way, that we were meant to help those creatures.

And it gets better each day. All babies are still alive and growing; mommy feeds them well. This, alone, is amazing, taking the fact that she’s been abused that badly plus had to accept the removal to a completely different environment.

Last week one of the males (“Fleckchen”, which means Tabby) has been castrated; bunnies can still be potent six weeks after the castration. And since he fell head over heals in love with Blacky (the female), I thought it urgent that he will be ready for a potential partnership as soon as she no longer has to feed her young. I’ve learned that it’s not appropriate to the species to keep bunnies separate; they have to have a partner, so I will try to find one for each. But what am I telling you details about bunnies; since you replied with a bunny icon I suppose you already know a lot about bunnies, is that correct?

Wuermchen actually seems to recover! It seems like a miracle, but he’s gaining weight, his injuries are healing, and his fur grows back. Where I found just a bone instead of a tail, a real scut reforms, and he gets more attentive each day. The name “Wuermchen”, btw., is the belittlement of “Wurm”, which means “worm”, so its name is “little worm”. Sounds funny, of course, and wouldn’t be a proper name at all in English. In German, “armes Wuermchen” (pitiable little worm) is a phrase we use for pitiable, unfortunate, or ill babies. Hrm, when I think about it, I’m not sure if I haven’t read the phrase “worm” in this context in English, too.
Well, it was the first thing that popped into my mind when I realized the miserable state he was in, and the name stuck.

Thank you again for your consideration; I’d like to squish you senseless! It’s just wonderful to know that you feel alike (as if I hadn’t known that before *winks*). ♥

Sorry for the late reply! My mom's been sick & everything's a bit crazy around here.

Yes! I do think you were meant to help your bunnies. I think mommy bunny is probably thrilled to have been moved to a completely different environment!

Oh no! Is it true that it’s not appropriate to the species to keep bunnies separate? Uh oh. I had a white bunny (she came from a farm that raised them for food) & I never thought to get another one. I hope Moonbeam didn't have too bad a life as a single bunny. I loved her more than any other pet I ever had after she died. Funny how I miss her even now, 30+ years later. I never got another rabbit, she just couldn't be replaced.
I think Fleckchen & Blacky will make a lovely couple. ❤

I'm thrilled that Wuermchen is recovering, & I think his name is perfect! You're right about 'worm' sometimes being used to refer to babies/children in English too.

*hugs for you & your new babies*
