I want to be 6 Again

"To Whom It May Concer:
I hereby officially tender my
resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like
to accept the responsibilities
of a 6 year old again.

I want to return to a simple life--
when a kiss could make any hurt feel better,
a cardboard box made a perfect
slide for a grassy hillside,
and if I pumped my swing hard enough,
I could touch the sky.

I want to skim rocks across
a fresh puddle, to fish for
crawdads in the creek
after a rain, and believe that
M&M's are better than money
because you could eat them.

How nice it would be
to lie under a big oak tree
and watch the endless sky
filled with animal-shaped clouds drift by
or sell lemonade on a hot summer's day.

I want to return to a time when
I thought the world was fair and that
everyone in it was honest and good.
I want to play kick-the-can,
to draw hopschotch squares on the
sidewalk with pink challk and
believe that anything was possible.

I want to believe again in the power
of smiles and hugs,
imagination and dreams,
a kind word, truth, peace,
and making angels in the snow.

I want to live a simple life.
I want to be 6 again.
Would you like to come along?"

I saw this on a poster and I thought it was the cutest thing ever, and had to post it. I think everyone wants to go back to a time when things were better. Too bad we have to grow up and move on sometimes. :( When I read pieces like this it makes me feel young again for the few short minutes I am reading them. The words, though not always the most creative, draw me into the memories I had when I was younger. I guess that's what an imagination is for. blargh.
