politics!!

This LJ has lately become little more than a repository for web links of interest... but that's ok, I think it just means that I'm whining less. :)

Anyway, here's the latest (I mistyped "here's" FOUR times before I got it right, this is the kind of effort
I go through to bring this to you): it's a calculator that refers your answers to a list of political issues/questions to the list of known positions of the various political candidates in the upcoming presidential election.

A description of the process, from the website:

"Here's how it works, if you want to know. If you agree with a candidate, he gets point(s). If you disagree, take point(s) away. Unkown/other results in no points. The number of points given or taken depends on the weight you set. "Meh" is worth 1 point, "important" 2, and "key" is worth 5. The items you disagree about will be listed directly underneath each candidate (if they score greater than zero)."

I of course line up most strongly with Kucinich at 70 points, although he and I notably disagree on NCLB. This could be insignificant, however, as the website states that some issues are complex and warrant more than a simple "yea/nay" vote. (For instance, I think we need to get rid of it, but he's probably in favor of reforming it... it's a fact after all that our public schools are in need of help... so in that sense I could say I'm for federally motivated public education reform, even if it is still called NCLB.)

Then after that I had Gravel with 64 points and NO disagreements, oddly enough, and finally Obama and Clinton hovering in that order somewhere around 60 and three or four disagreements each. That's pretty much what I expected except Gravel was a surprise. I guess I just didn't know where he stood since he's such a curmudgeon... I must not have paid attention. I shouldn't fault the poor guy too much for that though... honestly that's probably what I would look like if I ran for president myself.

So, how about it!! Much better than these other lameass LJ quizzes to tell you which "Peanuts" character you're most like or how good of a kisser you are. Why don't you take it and list me your top 4 matches and what you think of them? Or don't. But it could be fun!!
