I guess I'll reply to this because I just watched this video twice (on your post and on Christoph's). Yucky.
First off, I think PETA's ideas for spreading their message perpetuates the social stigma associated with the group. (I'm sure we've all seen PETA on South Park and giggled.) And honestly, who ever decided that seeing a tanned young girl with a pornstar crotch was going to make me revel in my natural animal roots and identify myself with a wrapped piece of chicken is just silly, but whatever... I don't work in advertising. Or tanning.... or porn.
But, I guess the point is to get attention and I'm sure this will. Personally, watching that video of a pig being dragged by its leg on a blood soaked floor is enough for me to swear off bacon for the rest of my life. Sure, I'd have to think about that image every time I went to breakfast, but I could do it. I know I'm not going to save the pig, but it bothers me that much and more importantly, I can live without it. But, I don't think everyone in the world would be able to survive without meat or fur/leather. I'm all for organic farming and cotton, but I live in Connecticut and can afford other products. So for me it's a choice. But, I believe for some people, the idea of forgoing meat for PETA is insane. Take my Nonnu for example. I know that (a long time ago during the depression in Italy) he stole animals and slaughtered them with his own hands. Would PETA be upset with him? I bet. But, he had to. He was starving.
I often feel like, fuck those bitches in thousand dollar fur coats, but don't overlook the fact that people too deserve a life of quality. Some people can afford the ideals of PETA, but not everyone can. Right? Maybe?
