This game is just...wow. Every time i play it i love it, although i've never finished it due to crashing computers and such. Now that i have it on xbox, i am in happy land. I kinda over did it, and i've been needing a break from console gaming, so i've been mainly on the computer the last few weeks, but i seriously need to play more morrowind. the complexity and open-endedness of the game is just under the point of being overwelming. the police system allows you to commit horrible acts, but forces you to consider the consequences first. (who wants to spend time in jail, and lose a bunch of skill points just because they weren't carefull about killing some shop owner, and didn't have enough money to pay the fine?) also, you are completely free to accidentally kill someone who can benifit you later in the game. at one point i had killed some lady in her house so that i could take her stuff, and a few hours later i found out i could have gotten a sidequest out of her. bummer. another interesting thing to note is that what skills you can learn and how far you can take them is only limited by the amount of time you are willing to put into them. while the learing process can be hurried along by paying someone to train you, one must keep in mind how easily you could train that particular skill on your own, and act accordingly. for instance, i could pay a couple hundred gold to advance one point of acrobatics, or i could spend a half hour jumping around. on the other hand, some skills are not so easy to train on your own.
i think my favorite feature of morrowind is the long list of factions you can become a part of, and the complex political climate of the game. some factions will not allow anyone they consider an outsider to join them. some factions are opposed to others, making joint membership untenable.
all in all morrowind is an amazing game that can keep a person captivated for hours on end. brilliant.
