IT'S STILL SO LONG... SOB.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Luna's slightly taller than most girls her age, standing at 5'4". She's kind of thin, but not real thin. She has curves, they're just not obvious.
2. How old is she?
Luna is fifteen years old.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Her posture is kind of awkward and odd. She doesn't carry herself particularly well and has her hands clasped in front of her most of the time unless she's reading, which she will then place her fist under her right cheek as she does to lean on it. She doesn't slouch, but she's far from perfect in this area.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Luna is unusually frail for a girl her age, and this includes the pallor of her skin. She's pretty pale, and burns easily. She's not fit. She's about average in this area because she doesn't do much running and isn't much of an outdoorsy girl. Her immune system isn't the strongest, so she sometimes succumbs to an illness here or there. She has no physical disabilities.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Luna moves a bit like a graceful person who tries to carry herself properly (really, she does!) but is just too clumsy by nature and sometimes ends up stumbling, falling on her face and skinning her knee. She's fluid by no means. A lot of her movements seem slow, almost delayed, even.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Luna's... not exactly attractive, but she isn't unattractive either. The pallor of her skin makes her seem a bit more odd than your average girl, but if one looked close enough they might discover that her skin is actually quite fair, and that she takes care of it well. As for her perception, well... Luna has little to no personal opinion of her appearance. It's not that she hates the way she looks, she just doesn't... care. Most of the clothes she wears she wears because her mother makes her, and she doesn't put much thought into her daily appearance.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Pale. Very pale. So... light I suppose? Light and clear?
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Her hair is black with a blue-ish sheen and fine enough so that one could run their fingers through it and not stumble upon a mess of loose ends and tangles. She brushes it when she can. As for the style... she wears it in a bob. It doesn't quite go past the base of her neck. When it does, she'll typically cut it.
9. What color are her eyes?
Luna's eyes are a clear ocean blue. They're so blue, in fact, that they almost seem unnatural (but this can only really be seen when the light strikes them just right.)
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Luna carries a teddy with her. His name is Nosferatu, and he is her only friend. Luna takes care of Nosferatu more than she takes care of herself which may hint at some... delicate self-esteem issues. Nosferatu sports a really pretty black ribbon on its neck.
Her only other noteworthy features are the homemade cords Luna has made out of yarn that she chooses to wrap her arms in. They're blue and red in color, and symbolize a period in her family's history where the cult they founded split into two sects--one encompassing red, and one encompassing blue. She also carries a bell around. It's small and ornate, seemingly made out of stone rather than brass.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Luna's chief tension center is probably her head. Luna doesn't listen to herself at the best of times and lets what she thinks get in the way of what she knows. This causes a lot of unhealthy stressful thoughts to form at the back of her mind, questioning why she committed a certain action instead of a more logical, precise action.
Luna's mind is a lot like a rushing river; it can flow serenly in one direction but if you try and paddle in the other direction, you get stuck in one place. There are also rapids where everything gets very choppy and sometimes dangerous.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Luna's wardrobe is... nothing special to speak of. A lot of her outfits are very weird, and some are just really plain. She's generally the kind of person who will have six of the same dress just because it's easier. Some of these dresses she has made bizarre alterations to, but those she is not allowed to wear in or out of the house so they just stay in her closet gathering dust.
In fact, the finest thing Luna owns are the clothes she took with her to Adessi. For the first time, Luna's mother forced upon her a more dressy wardrobe because of the school's opulent nature.
As for colors, she tends to go more neutral than anything. A lot of black. Luna loves black. But she loves white, too. You just won't ever see her wearing it.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
No. Not really. Luna's clothes are kind of uncomfortable on her. Seeing as how she's a freshman, she's just now getting used to dressing according to the school's dress-code so she'll look very uncomfortable in most of what she wears... until she gets to 2012 and can start dressing more goth-like (lolita dresses, long knee-high boots with an unnecessary amount of straps and buckles, stockings, choker, etc.)
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Luna dressed more professionally when she worked in the library and, a lot of times, her mother chose what she should wear. Her clothing there was similar to what she wears at Adessi. In her free time, she dresses a lot more freely. She might choose to wear a blouse and a skirt rather than a dress, for example.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
HOW DOES THIS EVEN APPLY TO A GIRL CHARACTER!? I'm not doing it!
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Luna's voice is high-pitched, but lower than a girl's should be. It kind of sounds like she's in a balance between a really high-pitched boy and a low-pitched girl, if that makes any sense.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Luna is very soft-spoken. Her voice is quiet and many will likely have to ask her to speak up most of the time. She only really speaks easily when educating people. Otherwise, she really has to be forced.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
No. The only quirk Luna has is she tends to repeat herself, possibly for emphasis or just to talk to herself. She also speaks slowly at times.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Only English. She's acquainted with latin (as any occult lover should be) but only in passing. She can recognize a few words but she's nothing extraordinary at it.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Luna's not exactly the most charismatic person. She really has to think about her words most of the time, which is why she'll choose to take the easy way out and say a lot less than she should unless she's giving a lecture, or educating someone. She really comes into her own in that situation.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Inarticulate, even at the best of times. This only changes when she's lecturing someone, or educating someone.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Luna is very intelligent. Her knowledge is in a wide range of subjects, some not even having to do with the occult. However, her primary station of knowledge is situated firmly in the occult. She's not very street smart at all. If asked what that even meant she would just give you a half-lidded stare.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
She's definitely someone who needs time to deliberate, unless she already knows something about the subject in question. When that happens, she's able to think on her feet and provide as much (or as little) information as necessary.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Luna's thought processes are both logical and intuitive. She's capable of some heavy analysis so she can make logical deductions based on what she's observed or what she's gleaned from her analysis, but most of the time she relies on her intuition... a lot more than she should. She doesn't listen to herself and often reacts on what she perceive is true. Her mind is kind of like a smorgasbord of intuition and logic.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Luna has mostly received public school education. Adessi is her first private school. It honestly would've been sooner, but Luna kept insisting that she would find easier acceptance in public schools... until her desires to try and fit in just broke completely and her parents decided to send her to Adessi, hoping she'd have better luck in a more confined setting.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
The occult. She's interested in learning more about anything. Due to her upbringing and the cult's teachings, she considers all forms of knowledge sacred and any man (or woman) who desires to learn something is deemed important to her.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert. Definite introvert. She's tried to be extroverted and it has failed so. many. times., so she has been conditioned into being an introvert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Luna's temperament is mostly set at permanent indifference while somehow maintaining to be unfazed by everything all at the same time. She seldom ever shows emotions, never really has any mood swings per se and fits snugly between cheerful and melancholy. She's pretty laid-back when it comes to some things, but her approach is often more driven.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Luna is automatically apprehensive about new people, though she welcomes situations she's never experienced with open arms because new experiences are chances for new knowledge to come forth. However... her experiences with people have led her to something of a jaded outlook on humans in general. She has given up being accepted by anyone, but hasn't given up on educating people when they need to be educated. In that way... I guess she's kind of like a doormat.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Wow. Totally missed this one in how tired I was.
Anyway, Luna is a lot more likely to act than she is to react, which is saying something because most of the time she's a tad too shy to do... well... anything.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Luna's default reaction is flight. She isn't a fighter both physically or verbally.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Luna's typically not one to laugh very much but she has been known to have a good chuckle at black humor, or puns. She finds puns humorous because many people misuse them.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
No.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Luna's life has been largely defined by the amount of bullying she has gone through during the course of her life. There's not really much more to say about this.
14. What does she fear?
Authority figures, for the most part, because at many of Luna's old schools they were just as responsible for ostracizing her as the students were. She also fears kindhearted people because in her experience malice lies behind every smile.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Luna really hopes to one day achieve some kind of academic recognition in the field of the occult. Additionally, she aspires to answer the question of whether or not she believes what she does because they're her beliefs, or her parents'. Perhaps one day she'll be able to answer it.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Only about her family's history, because it leads to problems. Lots of problems.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Mostly good, though damaged by repeated moving and constant struggles that they don't really blame Luna for.
Luna's father is a lawyer who works as a defense attorney in Abaton City. Her mother is little more than a homemaker, but she never really worked much to begin with.
Her father's name is Donnovan Valerie. Her mother's name is Lucinda Valerie. Donnovan works while Lucinda stays home and takes care of in-home affairs. Most of the time, it was Lucinda who had to meet with Luna's teachers and principals. Because of all the schools that Luna has been pulled out of, Lucinda coddles her daughter almost to the point where it's a miracle that Luna even distinguishes herself as an individual. She does her best to ensure her daughter does not stick out... in any way possible.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Luna does not have any older or younger siblings.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Luna is close to her grandmother, a woman who lives in England designing clothes. Her name is Lucy, and as one might expect, Lucy is Lucinda's mother. When Lucy comes over to visit Luna, she often comes bearing various charms that she made for her daughter in support of her obsession.
Donnovan's mother and father are often quite close to her, however. They live down south where the cult was originally founded all those years ago. Donnovan's father is a retired police officer, and his mother doesn't do very much save for dote on her sons and granddaughters.
The person Luna dislikes most in her family is her uncle Reynold, who is very critical of Luna for not discarding their old ways and extremely critical of Donnovan for allowing her to become infatuated with them. He is a harsh man who disciplined his sons and daughters to become successful, leaving behind the unpleasant details of their family's history.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Nope.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Nosferatu was given to Luna by her grandmother Lucy when she came down to visit one day, shortly before Luna had to change schools (again). This is one of many reasons why Nosferatu is so dear to her.
6. Does she have other close friends?
Only Nosferatu.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
She has significant trouble getting along with people, although it's not really so much her and people as it is people and her.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
She considers family more important because Luna considers Nosferatu a part of her family.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
No.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Luna has never had a crush.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
I'd really love to say that the person playing Luna doesn't care for romantic relationships in general and as such Luna won't be pursuing one, buut that'd restrict character development and go against everything I believe in as a writer, so I won't.
ANYWAY. That aside. Luna just really wants someone who cares about her enough to listen and discover she is far more than a girl who was raised by a family stemming from a long line of cultists. Her standards for a partner are a bit... lower than they should be.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
No.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
Luna doesn't consider anyone an enemy in particular.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Hahaha. Luna is extremely confused when it comes to sexual orientation, primarily because she's had horrible encounters with both sexes. She's never thought of romance because she considers it beyond her. So, that being said... I really think she'll just fall for whoever shows her a substantial amount of kindness first, no matter what gender they may be.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Luna has never even heard the word sex.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Obviously, she doesn't know these and that suits me juuuust fine.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Yes. Luna is a virgo. She fits it loosely, I must say. All of the traits are hers, but she kind of separates from them as well.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Luna worships a religion unknown to pretty much everyone who does not have significant knowledge of religions in general. Even then, it's really obscure. It doesn't have a name per se, but it's closest to Gnosticism than anything else. She worships idols that preside governance over various actions that all people commit.
These elements are extremely important to Luna, though more because of conditioning from her parents than from anything else.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Luna's code of ethics is simple: don't do anything that will piss off any of the Idols. She was raised with this code, which has been ingrained into the Valerie bloodline for centuries.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious. Very curious, because all forms of knowledge are important to her. Naturally, she'd want to learn more. She wouldn't necessarily disagree, either.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
She holds a prejudice only towards authority figures, and that's been well detailed.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Mostly comfortable. The Valerie family isn't rich per se, but they're well to do even after Lucinda blows most of her husband's money on frivolous things.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Normally Luna would sit juuuust on the cusp of upper class, but repeated moving and having to find a new house and whatnot have put a strain on that. They've fluctuated from upper to middle for a long time, now.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
She lives in a house. It's in pristine condition thanks to all of Lucinda's borderline obsessive micromanaging. She shares it with relatives when they come over.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Occult paraphernalia. And books. Sometimes, writing supplies. She likes to write poems about nature.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
She goes to school, and she's good at it because she's so studious. She's rather indifferent to it.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Her interest is writing, sleeping and enjoying nature. She spends most of her free time sleeping. If she could, she'd sleep her life away.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Luna's not really picky when it comes to food, though she does skip meals here and there... especially when they have to be eaten in a cafeteria with other students.
Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is her favorite:
1. Color? Black and white, red and blue.
2. Smell? Luna is partial to the smell of old tomes. She equates it to the smell of knowledge.
3. Time of day? Afternoon because it's a great time to nap on benches, and night for studying by candlelight.
4. Season? Fall. Can you guess why? Here's a hint: Halloween.
5. Book? None in particular. She could never pick just one.
6. Music? Classical.
7. Place? Any place with trees and animals. She loves forests and open pastures.
8. Substance? Water, or tea. She drank a lot of tea when she lived at home.
9. Plant? It's hard to pick one, but if she had to she'd probably pick a lilac or a hibiscus because they're both pretty.
10. Animal? She loves birds. And bears, obviously, but only in the teddy form.
