We are alone together, in the rain.
I still on a curb pushing pockets with balled hands, sit on a curb down on the city, bleary beneath dim building silhouettes wrapped in windows, just yellow rectangular light lost faces.
Lightbulb concealed city stars stretch into the unlit purple horizon lantern, night as deep as late as wide sighing into the AM We hunch inwards and listen to the rain echo off the streets like apocalyptic applause. She stares at me, liquid eyed dark and deranged beneath hearth of static sky, Irises diluted head hinged slightly, vulnerable neck expression in the streetlight anticipates something soft I watch the buildings stand rigid in gridded street cement, distanced forever by blocks.
