I just finished my Job interview for a job in the University Computing center as a tech support guy. It was a pretty good interview. I think I was too timid as usual but I demonstrated what I think was a superior knowledge of common issues with connectivity, spyware, and other computer related stuff. I also think I scored points for professionalism. It seems like it comes down to whether they want to hire me when they normally hire freshmen.
I'm reading a lot of stuff that I really like about John Roberts. He would make a great supreme court justice and even a great head justice (only better pick for Chief would be Ginsburg IMHO). Even though many have described Roberts as a corporate hack I think that is not entirely accurate. He is an extremely successful person and you don't get there unless you play nice with the Man. I applaud president Bush for picking a great guy. I only hope that democrats will rally and support Robert's nomination. It would be foolish in my view to allow a minority of Democrats who think Roberts is too Conservative to side with a minority of Republicans who think he is too Liberal and derail a person who really is a moderate who plays by the rules and reflects what Americans think so well.
Roberts wisely commented that he thinks Roe v Wade and other abortion cases form too much of a precedent to be overturned. This is definitely a stance many would associate with being liberal. Instead, I get the vibe that Roberts is just a "play by the rules" kind of guy who doesn't want to distort the law. Abortion is not the only issue that Roberts will be ruling on and IMHO it isn't even the most important one. It is definitely better to have a Justice who looks at the precedents and the law from a sophisticated level than to have a conservative or even liberal pick that makes politically popular ruling today that will come back to haunt our children. Especially conservatives should support Roberts because I guarantee that there will be at least as many conservative precedents that he upholds.
