Disgruntled employee

About two weeks ago, one of the 300+ employees in my office was fired. Evidently his manager knew he would go nuts because he brought a security guard with him when he told him he was canned. He started throwing things and punching the wall and he even threatened to kill his (now former) boss.

As a side note: I thought this guys was totally normal, actually I thought he was extremely nice and friendly. I guess I'm not as good a judge of character as I thought I was.

Anyway, They somehow managed to escort him out of the building at which time the building was locked down so that no one without an employee key card could get in.

Did I mention he was a department manager? Well, he was and his employees were told to take a nice long lunch and try to stay out of their department for the next couple of hours.

The next day everything was pretty much back to normal around here and the last couple of weeks have been relatively quiet. That is, until today. Right now there is a man in uniform in our lobby studying the former employee's photo. And once again, we are on lock down. The silly thing is that the powers that be at my company don't think we're smart enough to figure out what's going on. They're trying to say there was a break in last night and that's why the front doors are all locked.

That would almost make sense if it weren't for the fact that it's broad daylight and there's also a security guard stationed outside of this building which happens to be full of employees. No thief in their right mind would ever try to break into this place right now. It's obvious they're worried about the safety of one or more of their employees which means this guy has threatened someone again. At least that's my hypothesis...any other ideas?

Anybody have good stories about one of your colleagues doing something similar?
