I'm in Chicago again, finally away from home. Like every start-of-the-quarter, life is good right now. There are many sources of general goodness, and so there's a lot of stuff that I could put into this post (as in, I've deleted and written totally different sentences to go in this space about 5 times), but I'm lazy, so I'm just going to tell a story.
So Yuri and Adina made 4 giant copies of the back of this year's Mathcamp shirt in the course of getting it into a scanner-friendly format. Naturally, Adina got one, and Yuri got one, and no one knew what to do with the other two. Well, end of camp rolled around (end of end of camp, as in, 4 staff remaining), and when Yuri asked if I wanted a giant bear poster, well, the answer was naturally yes.
So, of course, this was to be hung in my room at Chicago (though I already have a copy of each of my MC shirts hanging on my wall, so the poster is redundant in that sense), and as I didn't have a poster tube at home, I carried it by hand. I realized that said poster was missing right when I got off of the bus to my dorm, and I chased after the bus with all of my luggage, but, of course, this was futile, so I sort of just waved a sad goodbye to the bear poster. It wasn't likely that the CTA would bother to keep it in a lost and found. Another keepsake from MC lost. *sigh* (I also lost the sign-in hat from MC '08).
But wait, buses cycle! And transfers are only 50 cents! I rushed to put my stuff in my room, and then went across the street and got on every bus for the next 30 minutes until I found the one that had the poster on it. Whoooo! It is difficult to properly express how excited I was about recovering that poster. And then I recovered a sci-fi short story collection that I thought that I had lost too. Happy day.
...now if only the sign-in hat would come back. (I know where I lost it, and my chances of recovery are 0. It is sad.)
