web design (aesthetics) question

The following is a lot of words over a very small question.

I'm finally getting a webpage together, what with fanfiction.net being about to kick all my FPS off, and then the lovely lobelia321 giving me an encouraging kick in the tail too ( Read more... )

You can't really override how someone views it on their computer. Most browsers now (I know this applies to IE and Netscape) give the person the option of using the page determined font to view the site or using the default font on their computer to view it, regardless of what font the webmaster designed the site in.

Best thing to do is to set it up and instruct the browsers to use the fonts that you think look best with the layout (serif of some sort in this case) and just go from there. No matter what font *you* use, the visitor can still override it on their computer if they want.

Thanks for this. Heh, would you believe I've only just discovered the basefont tag?! And the whole font family thing, which is, needless to say (!), really useful.

This project is like leaving a child alone with matches... h
