"Awwwww! Hello there," Amanda said, crouching down and offering her fingers for the kitten to sniff, then avidly looking around her son's room. "And I wouldn't believe her either. Do you mind?" she asked, cocking an eyebrow up at him, in a gesture she sometimes copied from his father. "Cats are wonderful companions."

"It seems like a nice room, too. You ended up with enough room for everything, didn't you?" Amanda stroked the kitten's head very gently, smiling as it wobbled toward Spock. "Is there anything you need from home? I could send it when I get back."

And there was an Elena, breezing into the room as casually as -- well. One who lived there.

She stopped short when she realized there was an extra person in the room.

"Oh," she said quickly. "Hi. Am I interrupting? I can go."

It was her room, too, but she was totally willing to flee. She was flexible like that.
