Brainstorms about Hatred

Apr 01, 2008 13:57

In one of my conversations today, we were discussing hate. I had said I hated someone, and they asked why it was hatred.

"I mean, serious dislike sure, but hate? Doesn't that harm your character a little as well to harbor that animosity?"

It's a topic I've given quite a bit of thought to actually. I've heard people say that hatred only subtracts from you as a person, but in the end, I don't think it does.

Like other strong emotions, such as love, it is something that can be tame or extreme. If we limit the things we think of as "negative", are we also limiting our "positive" emotions as well? Now, indulging in hatred, just like indulging in love, can have incredibly negative effects. (I wish I could think of a better emotion to compare it to, rather than love, but ah well.)

Thoughts?
