This is Scott Summers. Is anyone from the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters listening? Students, stay where you are. Wait for the Professor or one of the other teachers to contact you. Jean, Ororo, where are you? I'm going to find a central location for us to regroup.

[Okay, shout-out complete. Now, about this note:Alright, Deior? How did this ( Read more... )

...School for Gifted Youngsters...?

[Why did that... kind of ring a bell? The only one who mentioned a school for people with abilities was...]

Do... d-do you know a Bobby, by chance?

[Chloe winces at that. What a lame question--something heard in all the films that flop. Not to mention how common of a name that is. Or... was, once upon a time.]

Bobby Drake? I do, and he's already talked me through this. Are you a friend of his?

[If Bobby has friends, Scott should probably be at least acquainted with them, because they're all good people if Bobby likes them, right?]

I--I am.

He's... Bobby's great.

He's a good kid.

[Well, he's not really a kid anymore, but you get the idea.]

I'm Scott Summers. I'm one of the teachers at the school.

[Y'know, in case she missed his name in the original broadcast and the signatures at the end of his replies.]

[A light, warm laugh that no doubt belied Chloe's excitement, if not a bit of awe.]

Y-you're a teacher? He told me about it, but...

Well, let's just say your world and mine are similar, but there definitely aren't any cool schools that sound as amazing as yours does.

I'm Chloe. Chloe Saunders. It's nice to meet you.

I teach mechanics, tactics, and leadership, as well as helping students control their "gifts".

Maybe there is one in your world and you just don't know about it? We don't exactly advertise what kind of special school we have.

But... doesn't everyone who goes there have a different type of "gift"? How can you teach someone something you haven't first experienced for yourself?

[She would have really liked to have been taught herself--and not from a crazy woman who was terrified of her power and later wanted her dead.]

M-maybe...

[Her tone sounds doubtful, however.]

Usually. It can help if you work with someone who has a similar skill, but all you really need is a safe place to explore your talents and the confidence to use them. Some gifts do need a little working with, but that's why being with people who understand and want to help you is important.

Even having one other person who's like you makes a difference, and we already know there's at least a few here.

Yeah. I agree with you there.

[Chloe's tone is definitely warm. She's lucky she had Derek and Simon. Liz and Tori. At least she hadn't been alone.]

It sounds like a great place to study.

[Okay, good to know she wasn't alone. A lot of the kids Xavier picks up are.]

It is. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't go to the school.

It's nice to hear they have a place to go.

[A bit of a wry laugh.]

At least if they wake up one day and think they're crazy, they can find out right away that isn't the case. That they'll be with people they can trust.

So... are you like Bobby, then? You once found yourself in a situation like that, too?

[Chloe's doing her best not to pry. If Scott was a teacher at this place, though, then she kind of hoped he had some supernatural talent. She's not right out asking what that is, however. Some people value privacy in that area.]

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple, but we do our best.

[As awesome as it would be to just kidnap all the mutant kids and raise them in a safe environment, it just isn't feasible.]

Yeah, I've been there.

...Ah.

[Chloe has been getting the feeling that things rarely ever were.]

Well, I'm glad I have the chance to meet one of Bobby's teachers. I'm sorry it's not under better circumstances, however.

[There's humor here.]

If you need anything, or have any questions, give me a holler, okay?

...O-oh. And steer clear of a man called Mads. He's...bad news for people like us.

[Or so she's heard. She's not about to test that theory.]

Thanks. I'm available if you need me for anything as well. People like us have to watch out for each other.

[Fffff, there's always someone, isn't there.]

I'll keep that in mind.
