So. I went downtown to watch the filming yesterday. By myself. (Please refrain from throwing objects or punches at/near/around me)
Nathan didn't want to go, and I got frustrated, so I took him home and struck out on my own. I basically did it to myself. lol
I was bound and determined to see Will Ferrell--but what ever happens in Flint?! I'm glad there's a movie shot here other than those crap-tastic Roger Moore "documentaries." I use "documentaries" loosely here.
So yeah, I parked on campus by the Flint Journal, but I ended up trekking across town to the abandoned Durant Hotel. They were setting up the "snow" and the street for one city block that they'd be shooting at that night. So I went to the far end of the street and waited at the front of a crowd. And waited. And waited. Got to know the nice lady next to me. And waited. Listened to the red-neck family in front of me, with a gender-less child I was confused about... and waited. Took some pictures of the set-up: daylight, dusk, dark. Nearly froze to death in the wind, and waited some more. I finally called Nathan to come get me and take me across town to my car--b/c there was no way in hell I was gonna walk back across town, freezing, alone, and in the dark. Before Nathan got there, everyone finally realized that Will Ferrell had snuck in already (his huge height and blond afro gave him away), we yelled a little bit, tried in vain to take pictures in the dark w/o a flash (there were flash nazi's patrolling, and he was up the street), and finally I started to leave the mob to look for Nathan's car. That's when I saw the "thugs" on bicycles (bicycles?!?!) riding back and forth on the outskirts like hyenas waiting for a chance at a carcass. They started yelling at me, asking if it was a movie being shot, would I let them be in the movie, various crap. They were circling me!! I panicked, jabbed Nathan's number into my cell, and yelled, "WHERE ARE YOU?! Come save me!!" When I saw his car coming through downtown, I literally ran out in traffic and jumped in the car. It was quite the experience.... It was right there at the end where I realized, oh yeah, this wasn't one of my better life choices.. B/c really, I was ok as long as I was in a group, but once I was a lone, defenseless white girl walking by myself, I swear I was getting targeted. I was minding my own business, and groups of thug-wanna-be's were harrassing me!!
I only got some scenery shots of the theatre they shot in front of, the downtown strip with fake store fronts, and the street I staked out with the Kremlin bar scene behind the Durant Hotel. So Yeah. Next year, in like March, when the movie comes out and you see those scenes, I was there (and am there most days) and took pictures. lol
