Why is the movie "π" considered good? It leads towards
a certain understanding, that everything is expressed
and can be understood with numbers. This notion, in my
opinion, harbors the idea of objectivity, that
absolute order (which is equated with total knowledge
of how the universe works) exists somewhere far and
hidden from us mere mortals, but that it is possible
for us to find it. The leading character in the movie
is occupied only with the obsession of finding that
absolute truth, but he isn't concerned about the
various possibilities that may arise out of his
finding. I think he's single-dimensional and
dichotomized. But, that's just my opinion, and I must
admit that I don't remember portions of the movie. For
example, I don't remember to what extent of the stage
of "enlightenment" he was in before he relied on
lobotomy for bliss. Why did he do that? Did he see
that "π" doesn't connote order or did he just thought
that he failed at his quest of finding it?
