Adultery laws in Pakistan

Jul 27, 2007 00:18

I am playing guest lecturer to a colleague's Anthropology class tomorrow, and will be talking about Islam, women and human rights. I tried to narrow the topic down and decided to approach the issue of Islam, politics and gender from the angle of Pakistan's history. Came across this excellent article by a friend and colleague, Asifa Qureishi, who is a professor at the UW-Madison Law School. Asifa's article deals with the concept of Zina (adultery), and Zina Bil Jabr (rape) in the context of the Quran and the manner in which it is applied to Pakistan today.

Worth a read.
