Fighting for Imagine That

Sep 27, 2006 16:17

For those of you who had the wonderful pleasure of attending Dorman High School, I'm sure that you will be very familiar with the person that I am complaining about...

I am in Imagine That. If you don't know what Imagine That is, then you must not know who I am.

We, as you should already know, (Imagine That) is having a big, public performance this Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 7PM at the Spartanburg Little Theater's David Reid Playhouse.

I am a senior at Dorman, where I am a news anchor on the DTV News.

I saw it fitting that I do a story on our big performance, and just Imagine That in general.

Most of the older cast members of Imagine That who also attended DHS know that Mr. Wyatt is not the friendliest when it comes to our performances...

(i.e.) Once, last year, Cardell and I asked him (asked, mind you, we didn't just start hanging them up.) if we could put up the audition flyers, he said no, of course, and he said that it was not a school related group and because of the performance topics that were listed on the flyer (sex, drugs, abuse, rape, racism, etc.) That's cool, I guess, even though there are at least ten girls below the age of seveteen walking around the Dorman hallways that are indeed pregnant, AND, more than half of Dorman students drink alcohol illegally, and I'm sure that there are many other topics that Dorman students are faced with than that. So I mean, whatever, close your eyes if you want to, school principal.

But, do not take this chance for these outstanding students to be recognized! I am sick to death of hearing about the HSAP high scorers, the SAT overacheivers, the Nation Merit Scholars, and all of that other bullshit, when they are the ones getting drunk over the weekends, and partying, while we are out in the community actually trying to make a difference. We don't smoke, we don't drink, and we are proud of it. And I think that it is literal bullshit that you would deny us the freedom to hang our posters inside the school, to announce it on OUR news program, it is insane how completely blinded you are by your ignorance! I will not sit back and let you shut us down any longer, I am going to stand up and fight for what I believe in, which is pure insanity that I am having to fight for such a positive group of diverse youth in the first place! Mr. Wyatt, I am beyond angry, I am beyond upset, I wish that you would take the time out to learn about us, learn what we do, and you will see that we are indeed the best group of students that Dorman High School has to offer, fuck those preppy alcoholics whom are the "stars" of Dorman, the "achievers", WE are the REAL achievers! I could go on, but I see it only fitting to end the argument there.
