summary: Post-war Britain is protective of its golden boy.
Boy in a Grey Cloak
In this streak of sunny days gracing Diagon Alley
Swarms of owls sweep down, delivering messages
To wizards and witches in bright cloaks, broken only
By the occasional funeral robe, from which most would
Politely look away. But there is one at whom they do look:
A boy in grey. The grey cloak one of many purchased for him
By his mother, who encouraged a cloak for every occasion
And for his current situation, it seemed only grey would do.
Over full English breakfasts, folks religiously read their news,
Prophets thick with post-war gossip fodder, pour their
Eyes over photographs of young Harry Potter and that
Handshake, representing that reprehensible truce. Why
Would their golden boy mix with this wrong sort:
This child of Death Eaters; this Muggle hater who
Dresses himself in his mother's words and earns
Collective, protective glares from the side that won;
This grey boy who threatens to cloud their sun.
