"Happy Anniversary Anthony!"

Anthony's eyes flickered open to the blurry image of a man standing, practically hopping with excitement, in front of him. The man had a huge smile on his face that looked like it was stitched permanently on his beautiful face and his electric eyes shone with happiness. Anthony rubbed his eyes as the other man jumped onto the bed carefully and placed an old-fashioned silver tray on Anthony's lap. Anthony looked down at his breakfast-in-bed made up of pancakes with raspberry sauce, his favourite, and a tall glass of orange juice.

"It's not much, but I hope you like it." The man said worriedly.

"It's perfect Ian. I love it. I love you!" Anthony said as he leaned down to kiss Ian lovingly on the forehead.

"There's something else... I'll be back in a minute!" Ian said as he reluctantly pulled himself from Anthony's embrace and dashed from the room. Anthony began to devour his breakfast joyfully, not realising how hungry he was before. It wasn't long before Ian came back into the room with his hands behind his back and a slight blush on his cheeks.

"Well we've been together for 4 years, and it's been amazing, and I love you so much, so I wanted to get you something special, but I don't have much money and I had no idea what to get so I thought I would give you this as it marks all of our time together..." Ian rambled and Anthony laughed softly.

"It's okay Ian, show me!"

Ian brought his hands from out from behind his back, revealing a picture frame, with a collage of different photos of times they had spent together with silver writing at the top. It read 'I love you, forever and always'. Anthony could feel his eyes watering. Ian gasped, placed the picture frame on the side and rushed to Anthony's side.

"I'm sorry! Did you expect something better? I'm really-"

"No, no, no! It's perfect!" Anthony cried and he pulled back into the bed in a hug.

"Where's my present then?" Ian said with a cheeky grin. Anthony hit him gently on the head.

"Ah, you'll get it soon, get changed and I'll take you to it."

"Oooo, I love suprises!" Ian flounced off the bed and quickly got changed, ready for the journey.

"Far away! This ship is taking me far away...!" They sang as Anthony drove them through town to Ian's suprise.

"Hey I know what song to put on!" Ian said and began to change the song.

"Noooo, I like this song!" Anthony said and he to reached for the CD controls.

"No this one!"

"Urgh, that song sucks!"

"No it doesn't!"

They both scrabbled at the controls playfully, trying to get their choices when suddenly-

"ANTHONY, LOOK OUT!"

"What?!"

Anthony looked up as the car caught the side of the pavement, spun around and smashed into the building closest. Anthony heard screaming, defeaning screaming and his head begged it to stop. He realised it was his own. His head swirled as he reached out for Ian.

"Ian...." He mumbled incoherently. Voices surrounded him, screamed at him, shouted around his ears. His head hurt, everything hurt and he could feel a steady flow of blood run down his forehead. He couldn't see, couldn't speak, the smell of burning filled his remaining sense. His head slumped and everything stopped, everything went black....

"NO! IAN!" Anthony leaped upright in his bed, unaware of the tears streaming down his face.

"Ian...? He whispered and turned towards Ian's side of the bed, which hadn't been slept in for two months. Since the accident. Anthony crumpled and sobbed for what seemed like hours before he decided to get up and go to the hospital.

As he walked through the double doors he passing nurses smiled sympathetically at him.

"Good morning, Merry Christmas Anthony." They said, although Anthony felt neither 'merry' or 'good'. Anthony kept walking, silently, as he remembered the first time he had been in this white place.

Anthony woke and immediately wished hadn't. His head throbbed relentlessly and he could tell without looking that his arm was broken. He could feel a tightness around it, restricting his movement.

"Ah, Anthony, you're awake." A man walked into the room. Anthony panicked suddenly.

"Where's Ian?!" He asked, his eyes wide, searching the room as if Ian could be hiding under the bed or in the toilet.

"Um, that's what I needed to talk to you about Anthony. My name is Doctor Jay Lester, you can call me Jay, I, um, think we'll be talking alot." Anthony could tell the Doctor was struggling with finding the right words to say, which didn't help the panicked state Anthony was already in.

"W-what's happened to Ian...?" Anthony whispered.

"Ian's, um-"

Anthony gasped. "H-he's not....Dead?!" Anthony said the last word barely audible, as if it was illegal.

"Good Lord no, no Anthony! Ian's not dead! He's, well, um, he may not wake up for a while."

Anthony felt tears forming, mixing with his chocolatey irises.

"He's in a coma...?"

"I'm afraid so. When you... Before the car crashed, it spun around, so, um, Ian was facing directly into the impact, he would have taken the full blow. I'm so sorry Anthony."

Anthony could see the sympathy on the young doctors face, but he didn't care, his feelings wouldn't wake up Ian.

"When will he wake up?"

"I-I, I really can't say. Everyone's different. It could be anything from a week to months to years." Jay cleared his throat. "There is a possibilty that he could never wake up."

That's all it took for Anthony's floodgates to open. He sobbed without pause while Jay shuffled awkwardly.

"Would you like to see Ian?" He said quietly.

Anthony raised his head. "Please?"

Jay helped Anthony out of his bed and supported him as they went to Ian's room. Anthony stared at Ian. He felt as if his heart had broken into a thousand little pieces. He was hooked up to a machine with so many wires it made Anthony queasy. Anthony sat on a chair beside Ian's bed and, with his good arm, reached out to grasp Ian's hand. It felt cold to Anthony's touch and Anthony felt the tears return.

"You can, er, talk to him Anthony. He can hear you."

Anthony didn't know if what the doctor said was bullshit to make him maybe a bit happier, but if there was a chance Ian could hear, he wasn't going to waste it.

"I'm so sorry Ian, this is all my fault! I should have just let you choose the song! Now this has happened...." He paused. "I'll come back everyday until to wake up, because I know you will, you can't give up! You know I will always love you Ian." Anthony stood up. "I want to go home now.

From then, not a day had passed when Anthony hadn't visited Ian in the hospital. Everyone working in the hospital knew his name and they seemed like a second, caring family to Anthony. His own family was equally supportive, but neither had been able to fill the empty hole in his heart. When his mother had rang that morning to wish him a Merry Christmas she had said,

"It's Christmas Anthony, miracles always happen on Christmas! You never know, Ian could be awake, waiting for you now!"

Anthony didn't believe her though. As much as he hoped, wished and believed Ian would wake, he felt indifferent to any day that had passed.

"Hey, Anthony!" Anthony paused and gave a half smile to Doctor Jay in front of him. They had become firm friends over the past two months, the only one Anthony felt he could confide in.

"Hi Jay, how's-"

"Anthony! Shut up! Quick in here!" Jay cried, pulling Anthony into Ian's room. Anthony didn't know whether to feel excited, he could be awake, or whether to feel sad, he could have died. When they entered the room, Anthony noticed no difference, Ian was still a sleeping angel.

"Anthony! Earlier, Ian, he said your name!"

Anthony's heart jolted and his head pounded. "What?!"

"We were checking on him when he whispered your name!"

"Oh my..." Anthony rushed to the bed and clutched Ian's hand. "C'mon Ian! Can you hear me?" Ian didn't move. "Please Ian? Please?!" Anthony stared at Ian's motionless face and was about to let go when-

"Ian?!" Ian closed his hand around Anthony's and sighed.

"Anthony?" He whispered, his blue eyes opening timidly, slowly for the first time in two months. Anthony burst into tears. "Ian! I've missed you so much!" Anthony dove down to pull Ian into the tightest hug possible, needing to be close to him.

"Miss.... Miss you too." Ian mumbled. Ian looked over Anthony's shoulder. At the window.

"Anthony, Anthony, snow." He said.

"Snow?"

"Anthony, snow. Window!" Ian raised his arm and pointed. "Always, always want snow." Ian's eyes lit up and he smiled shakily.
"Oh Ian! You're such a child!" Anthony said, stroking Ian's cheek. Ian had always wanted snow at Christmas, but they had never experienced it before, living in a damn hot place.

"It's Christmas Ian!"

"Christmas!" Ian repeated.

Anthony hugged him again.

"Ahem, um, Anthony?" Anthony turned to see Jay with a big smile on his face. "I know this is an amazing thing, Ian's woken up, but he will have to stay for a while, as you can probably hear, his speech is, well, a bit off and he still needs more tme to heal."

"Of course, thankyou so much!" Anthony cried "I love you Ian!"

"Love you.... Anthony." Ian said and returned the hug.

Anthony didn't care how long it took for Ian to heal, just knowing he will heal was enough for him. He hugged Ian, not letting go for the world, not wanting him leave again, and knowing, that he had just experienced to greatest Christmas miracle.
