line in the sand

So there is this livestock farmer who lives on a farm, all alone, somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma. This farmer has few animals and is considered one of the worst livestock farmers in the entire county. He has had many close encounters with different kinds of animals. He has tried horses, cows, goats, and even chickens. Those have all failed miserably. No one knows why, but the farmer blames himself most of the time - telling himself that the crop is never right for him. After failing with chickens the farmers decides to try pork out. He figures it's always been around and he's never really tried raising pigs before. Why not just give it a shot. So, he sells all of his chickens and goes to the market and buys some pigs. He loves the pigs that he buys. Absolutely falls head over heels for these pigs. He loves them so much that he even takes them on walks into town. For no particular reason really, it's not like they need the exercise; he just really enjoys it a lot.

One day, on one of these little Pig Outings through the town, the farmer decides that the pig looked at him funny and he kicks the pig. The pig is a few feet in front of him and he takes a few steps and kicks the pig in the side. The pig lets out a loud cry and tries desperately to run away from the farmer. The townspeople who are around watching this happen simply shrug their shoulders and keep on with their business; not saying a word to the farmer. The farmer sees that the pig is hurt so he goes up to the pig and tells it that everything is alright. He tries for hours to convince the pig that it was a mistake and he didn't mean to kick the pig and hurt it. So, finally, the pig accepts the farmers apology and goes home with the farmer.

Two days later the farmer still feels bad about what happened the last time they went into town, so he decides to take the pig on a walk into town again. Again the pig gladly follows, thinking that the farmer is truthful about the kicking incident being an accident. But, once again, as the pig and farmer are walking through the town, the farmer looks at the pig, takes a step back and kicks the pig harder. This time not in the stomach, but in the rear end, sending the pig flying into the air and landing about 5 feet ahead of the farmer. The townspeople again see this and they just shrug their shoulders and go about their regular business; again not saying a word to the farmer. The farmer again feels bad about what he has done and again apologizes like mad. The pig, really wanting to go on walks with the farmer, again accepts the apology and goes home with the farmer.

The next day, the pig is so excited about going on a walk with the farmer, he takes his little leash to the farmer and begs the farmer to go on a walk with him. The farmer is just as equally excited about the walk and agrees. This time the pig really thinks things have changed, and boy, he is excited about going on that walk. But, what happens is, this time the farmer looks at the pig again and kicks the pig right in the side of the head. He kicks the pig so hard that the pig is knocked unconscious. The farmer thinks he has killed the pig, but after a few minutes, the pig wakes up. The townspeople see all this going but, once again, they just shrug their shoulders and go about their business; with no words to the farmer. Again the farmer apologizes and the pig accepts, they go home happy.

Their next walk isn't until 3 days later. The pig was a little shaken up by the last kick the farmer gave to him. But, after 3 days, the pig is alright and the farmer is alright. So they go on a walk again. They are walking along the road, both as happy as ever, but all of a sudden a bee starts flying around the pig. It's one of those big bees that like to sting a lot. The pig pays some attention to it, but he's still really enjoying his walk. Then, out of no where, the bee lands on the pigs leg and stings the pig very hard. The little bee just lets the pig have every bit of his stinger. The pig jumps into the air because of the pain and finds the closest thing to him - the farmers leg. The pig is in so much pain that he bites the farmers leg hard. The farmer lets out a small cry and all the townspeople turn to see what happened. They see that the pig just bit the farmer on the ankle. Then there is an uproar. The townspeople start crowding around the farmer and the pig, yelling things at the pig and telling the farmer he should kill the pig for being so mean. The townspeople say that if the farmer doesn't do anything about the pig, they will; they will kill the pig that night. Then they start trying to kill the pig right then and there, they start throwing rocks and it, and trying to stab it with sticks. And it worked. That very night, the entire town had one slice of bacon.

The farmer kicked the pig every time they took a walk into town, the townspeople even saw the farmer kick the pig every time they went into town. But they didn't do anything about it. They just shrugged their shoulders and never said a word to the farmer. They never told the farmer that he should stop kicking the pig, that it wasn't right to treat the pig the way he did. But the minute the pig did something wrong, the minute the pig bit the farmer on the leg, everyone around wanted the pig to die. Told the farmer that if he didn't do something about it, that they would. Where were the townspeople when the pig was being abused? Where were they when the pig really needed them? What the farmer did to the pig was terrible, unforgivable. The farmer treated the pig like it didn't have any feelings. And what did the pig do? The pig bit the farmer because it was stung on the leg by a bee. The pig didn't do it to hurt the farmer, he didn't have intentions of biting the farmer. But it happened, and that's when the townspeople stepped in. Good story - anyone know if it's true or not?

P.S. My skinny amigo, this story doesn't have anything to do with you. No matter what you say, you will always be my friend. I hope you have the same feelings toward me. You can't get rid of me that easy.
