CHARACTER NAME: Sasagawa Ryohei

SERIES: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

AGE: 15

BIRTHDATE: AUGUST 26

FACTION: Neutral

ABILITIES: Does extreme enthusiasm for boxing count? Seriously though, Ryohei was born with abnormally powerful muscles, and his love for boxing (and the endless amounts of training he puts himself through to get even better at the sport) probably only served to strengthen them even further.

Weapons?

PAH, REAL MEN CAN ACCOMPLISH EXTREME THINGS WITH THEIR BARE HANDS.

And they do, especially since a baby named Colonello shot him with a special bullet one fine day that bestowed him the ability to harness the incredible power in his muscles (in an entirely magical and hard-to-understand way that Ryohei doesn’t care to investigate into) and unleash a devastating attack with his right fist. He christened his super awesome new move ‘Maximum Cannon’, and that, as they say, is that.

PERSONALITY:

EXTREME.

In a nutshell, that is.

Beneath his loud, simple-minded exterior lies a caring older brother to one Sasagawa Kyoko, who, understandably, somewhat disapproves of his tendency to want to fight anything and anyone in the effort to become a stronger man. In his attempts to spare his sister from worrying too much over him, he resorts to hiding the truth about his fighting from her most of the time.

Ryohei lives for the thrill of the game and is more than happy to take on all comers in the boxing ring, concept of self-preservation be damned. He’s a true blue fighter at heart - born to pave his own path in the world with nothing but blood, sweat, tears and his own bare fists. The countless scars that map his body tell you stories - they’re fading lines that speak of the battles he has fought and bled for and ultimately won.

Dumb and aggressive at first glance, once you get to know him, he’ll turn out to be a pretty decent guy who just happens to brim over with sheer unbridled passion. We’re talking drown-you-in-the-roiling-waves-of-my-red-hot-determination (!!!) kind of passion, because anything worth doing is worth doing to the extreme, right? With all his energy and attention focused on boxing, however, Ryohei tends to forget about everything else around him. Such stubborn single-mindedness is probably the reason why he became so good so quickly, though.

Although overly-enthusiastic at times, Ryohei’s fearless personality makes him one hell of a protective and loyal friend whom you can trust to stick with you until the very end.

You can expect no less from someone who, in his own words, lives ‘to the extreme’.

HISTORY:

[+] Picked up his first pair of boxing gloves at the age of five and has never looked back since.

[+] Has a huge scar on his left temple, a present from some older kids who, by using Kyoko to lure him into a trap, managed to get to him and beat him up. His sister still feels responsible for the incident, even though it happened a long time ago, hence her not-unfounded worrying about his passion for fighting. She tried to get him to promise to never fight again; he just made a promise to never lose another fight. He keeps that promise rather well.

[+] Sphere? Yurei? Ryohei doesn’t really care all that much. He hears there are people out there with supernatural abilities and inhuman strengths and he figures they ought to be awesome to meet in a boxing ring. Like, really really awesome.

[+] Lives and breathes boxing. Probably dreams about boxing and punches his pillows in his sleep. He trains whenever he can - sometimes to the point where he forgets about going to classes. Other than that, he’s a pretty normal fifteen-year-old boy doing what he loves and making the most of what he can in a shitty, shitty situation.

[+] Learned his Maximum Cannon move with the help of Colonello and his special bullet.

[+] Accidentally destroyed one wall in the school gym very soon after.

[+] Was surprised that no one was very surprised. ‘It’s just what Sasagawa does, after all…”

[+] Present day.

WRITING SAMPLE:

Many phenomena - wars, plagues and the school gym suddenly missing one wall - come about when a latent power is awakened and left to destroy everything in its path.

Ryohei was beginning to see why.

The punching bag kinda just flew towards the wall and it was awesome to the extreme - it flew. In slow motion and everything, like in one of those movies with the impossibly cool action scenes, woah! -- Up until the point where it hit and the impact just blew a neat, punching bag-shaped hole in what he assumed was solid concrete. Then the rest of the east-facing wall just gave up and crumbled along with it with a forlorn rumble of dust and debris.

“… WOAH.”

He stared at his right hand and flexed his fingers. Opened them. Closed them. Examined his knuckles for non-existent injuries as he stood in the middle of the gym in quiet awe.

“IT’S EXTREMELY BREEZY IN HERE NOW.”
