Wow, this is a great start! I love Martha and Lois talking ... that's a relationship I always enjoyed on the show. You write both of them very well and the characterization felt real. I could see this playing out in my mind.

I am working alone at my desk in the night; my eyes are turned down, my mouth seems sad. In looking at it, I feel an echo of what I know I felt when it was taken. I feel alone.
Aww, I wanted to give Lois a hug in that part.

I really like Martha giving Lois the necklace and their discussion on Clark.

I hope they'll be more in this universe! :D

I loved Martha's relationship with Lois a lot too. It's one of my favourite relationships on the show, and I never see it written about -- which makes me sad.

Thankyou. I've been thinking about Martha quite a bit lately. It's sad that they didn't quite seem to know what to do with her as a character after Jonathan died, because I think she was one of the more engaging characters on the show.

*happy sigh* You take all the heartbreak and mix it in with the strong connections between Martha and Lois, here. Lovely job. My favourite line?

Her without a daughter; me without a mother: I took the locket. Lana had so many other things I love; she could spare me this one.

Thankyou! I like that line, too. It wasn't really explored on Smallville except in "Bride", but I think there is probably a large part of Lois which thinks that she will never quite measure up to the spectre of Lana. I think it's sad from Lana's point of view as well, because in reality it's not just a piece of jewellery that Lois will get in her stead.
