The latest episode of The Office opened up with a chance encounter between Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and David Brent (Ricky Gervais) from The Office UK. (Video at source, since NBC clips never play on here).
We were treated great scene which pointed out that though Steve has made his own paper distributor character his own, both characters share a root in being hilariously out of touch. At the very end of the interaction, Brent asks if there are any jobs at Dunder Mifflin to which Michael responds not right now.
Nothing set off in my head immediately, but later I watched the clip again and I remembered a post on ONTD:
Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on... The Office... and More!In it, it's said "Of Dunder Mifflin’s succession plans, amid all the fan speculation about who’ll be taking the reins later this season (It’s a new character! It’s an old character! It’s a current character!), there’s one scenario that no one seems to be talking about. And they should be. Think, people, think!"
After recalling this bit of information, alarms went off in my head as I contemplated,
"What if Ricky Gervais was the one to replace Steve Carrell???"
