OOC - Character Relationships in Edensphere (Still in Progress)

Jan 25, 2020 13:42

I finally caved in to the trend since someone told me it would be helpful to know what Justice thinks of people in the Sphere, given that he's both reserved and fairly anti-social. In general, he divides most people in the Sphere into two camps - "worth his time" and "not worth his time". The latter group mainly consists of people who repeatedly say or do what he considers to be stupid things or show no regard for the safety of others. It may also include those who have proven themselves ignorant of basic good manners. Your character probably already knows which group they are in. The ones he has closer relationships with are listed below (and yes, not finished yet!)

Truth (Phoenix Wright) is one of few close friends that Justice has made in the Sphere. They were born at the same time, and so in Sphere terms they are siblings. Justice only chose his own birth-name after hearing Truth's, and it did not take long before they realised they must have known each other in their own world. Their friendship was cemented when Truth assisted him in overcoming his deathly fear of the elevator, and when he helped him regain his name through a memory crystal. Still, it's a relationship that Justice has fought to resist, because of his belief that he is a murderer and the implications of having lied in order to gain and retain a friend of Truth's tenacity and genuine good heartedness. Truth is everything that Justice is not, and Justice's feelings about him vary from irritation to envy. Truth makes him think about things in ways that are alien to him, and yet Justice finds himself trusting the man almost unconditionally and seeking to protect him from  danger in the Sphere. Truth is the only person that Justice has talked to frankly about his fragmented memories of a murder that he committed, or has allowed to see him in any state of extreme emotion.  In addition to the existing discomfort that is present due to a sense of not deserving Truth's friendship in either world, Justice struggles against the "unnecessary feelings" that Truth prompts, and this often intrudes on their interactions, causing discomfort and awkwardness. Obviously Truth pings him for Phoenix.
Crow (Uchiha Itachi) is probably the only other person in the Sphere to whom Justice might be described as "close". They first met a month after Justice's arrival, when Crow brought a man to the Clinic who he had caught in the act of vandalising the Bookstore. Impressed by Crow's restraint but also his ability to defend himself, and realising that he and Truth were virtually helpless in the Sphere due to lack of any special powers or abilities, Justice asked Crow to teach him self-defence. A bargain was struck, and Justice became his pupil. Over time, they have become friends, although Justice still trains with him regularly.  Justice may have a healthy cynicism about his motives in general, but in anything important he is second only to Truth in having Justice's trust. Their friendship is often characterised by sarcasm and silence, but on Justice's side at least it's a comfortable one, both physically and mentally. For Justice, it's a friendship in which he rarely finds himself lost or confused, or under pressure to fulfil expectations of social interaction for which he has no frame of reference. Pings him most for... himself, with a side of Manfred (with whom Justice had a complicated relationship).
Cross (Allen Walker) was one of the first people Justice met when he started work in the Clinic and he was initially shocked that someone so young was working as a medic. But he has quickly come to realise that Cross, while still a teenager in many ways, has a maturity that goes beyond his years. Justice tends to watch out for him, even though he's quite aware that Cross is well-equipped to defend himself. Over time in the Sphere, Justice has gotten used to physical oddities but he still finds Cross' arm and eye-lens disturbing. This is mostly because of a faint sense that a teenager should not be used as what Justice has assumed to be some kind of weapon. Cross is one of Justice's "waifs and strays", and when Cross was killed, Timcampi attached himself to Justice instead. Cross is not a direct ping for Justice, but more for some of the circumstances of his own life. For this reason he has a tendency to place trust in Cross where he might hesitate otherwise due to his age.
Stoneface (Sam Vimes). Their first meeting was hardly auspicious, as it was Stoneface who discovered Justice after he had been beaten into unconsciousness by Praise. They have encountered each other several times since in investigating deaths in the Sphere, most notably Justice's own, and Truth's. They disagree on many things, but share a desire for law and order. Stoneface somehow manages to ping Justice both as a father figure and as a subordinate (Gregory Edgeworth and Dick Gumshoe), and his dealings with Stoneface are complicated as a result. On balance however, their relationship is cordial and honest; Justice trusts him more than most. Currently they are attempting to work out a legal system for the Sphere.
Blood (Kusajishi Yachiru). They first met during the Zombie Invasion when Blood was part of the group who evacuated the Clinic. Consequently he met her in full battle mode, and therefore has never underestimated her despite her childlike appearance and manner. Despite being aware of her capabilities, he's also aware that her emotions and responses are not those of an adult. This combination means that he never treats her as helpless, but always remembers that she is first and foremost a child. She has stayed at his and Truth's house several times when Ghost has been missing, and unknown to Blood, Ghost has indicated in writing that he wishes Justice to become her guardian in the event of his disappearance. Justice is baffled by this as he does not regard himself as having any skill with children, but nevertheless he takes the responsibility extremely seriously. Blood pings him mostly for Pearl Fey, with a side of child Franziska.
Medium (Maya Fey) is someone that Justice has become acquainted with via Truth. She reminds him of someone from his past but he can't place her at all. Regardless of that and regardless of her rather... unique outlook on life, he can't find it in himself to dislike her and in fact I'd go so far as to say he has more time for her than for most people in the Sphere. if you asked him though, he could not tell you why this is, and it doesn't make sense to him either. Medium ping shim for Maya Fey, obviously!
Lezard (Lezard Valeth) is Justice's supervisor at Medical. They have a peculiar relationship in that Justice respects him for his medical and magical capabilities but distrusts him due to his personality. Justice also dislikes his tendency to invade personal space and make personal or suggestive remarks. Regardless, he is a regular chess opponent and they play long, drawn-out matches over several days where moves are made usually in the absence of the other while carrying out their duties. Lezard is also a fellow connoisseur of tea, and their verbal sparring amuses Justice more than he would ever care to admit. Pings him most for Damon Gant, I suspect.
Steel (Apollo Justice) is Justice's administration assistant at the clinic. he first encountered Apollo when Truth found himself in the younger man's body during the Bodyswap Event. Justice does not recognise him at all, but is certain that they must come from the same world, after another two people that he and Truth exchanged bodies with have also appeared in the Sphere. He really got to know Apollo in the aftermath of the Fire, when Apollo took it upon himself to organise the disposal and identification of the dead. Justice was impressed with his level-headedness and attention to detail, subsequently offering him a job. For the most part he has found having Steel's assistance has been invaluable, and the fact that Steel is extremely thorough and accurate has reassured him that he made the right choice. He's started to become accustomed to the younger man's presence around the office, and there's a slow trust building between them, although he wishes Steel were a little quieter sometimes. Steel pings him most for Phoenix.
Spirit (Mia Fey) was another person who Justice knows must be from his world due to the Bodyswap event. When she eventually arrived in the Sphere, he found his relationship with her was awkward and uncomfortable, although for what reasons he did not know. She conjured a mixture of guilt and suspicion in him, and he was never quite able to get over it. Unfortunately, he had just begun to try and confront his feelings about her when she disappeared. Unknown to him, she completely pinged him for herself, and for his own issues about both their pasts and how they intertwined.
Dash (Tommy Shepherd) is another of Justice's waifs and strays. They met properly in Rivelata when Dash roped Justice into one of his pickpocketing escapades. Despite this, Justice regards him as essentially a good person. He's protective of Dash, as he is of most of the children/teens in the Sphere, and carries a lot of resentment at whoever confines them here for forcing them into this situation without family or friends. He occasionally requests Dash's assistance to run errands and deliver messages when things need to be done quickly and secretly. He is unaware of Dash's plans for a superhero team, and just as well, since he would disapprove on several levels. Dash pings him for "what might have been" and his lost teenage years with Larry and Phoenix.
Bastet (Shihouin Yoruichi). Their first meeting did not go well - Justice was recently arrived in the Sphere and Bastet was clothed as the Mad Cat Lady and was throwing kittens at people in the Marketplace. Offended at this apparent animal cruelty, Justice lectured her on the matter (not that she cared what he thought but since when does that stop him), and took the kitten that had been aimed at him home for Truth. Despite the inauspicious start to their acquaintance, through a variety of circumstances including the deaths and disappearances of people in the Sphere, Justice has come to know her better and to respect her for her capabilities as both a leader and a person to be trusted. As awkward as he can be around women, he will still seek out Bastet's opinion and she is undoubtedly the second person after Crow that he would go to in a crisis should powers beyond those of logic and human ability be required. I suspect that he almost wishes he were more comfortable in her company as he is shrewd enough to recognise when someone is under pressure or overstressed. I think she pings him for an odd mix of Mia Fey and Lana Skye.
P/Raise (H/Allelujah Haptism)/ Dyad (Allelujah Haptism) Justice had an uneasy relationship with P/Raise. Initially, he found Raise's quiet intelligence and polite company  enjoyable for many of the same reasons that he remains friends with Crow. Even the knowledge of Raise's "other half" did not prevent him from pursuing the acquaintance. However, the revelation that Praise had conspired with Aurora in Aurora's own murder led to Justice becoming a target, and Praise killed him - first attacking him outside the Hatchery and later finishing him off by crushing his windpipe while he was in a coma at Medical. Justice was reborn having forgotten the events that led up to his death, but these were later returned to him temporarily during a "Make a Wish" event. At that time he confronted Raise and told him what had happened in the belief that knowing the truth would enable Raise to face up to and deal with the consequences of allowing Praise to take control. The identity of the person who killed him is known only to Justice and to Truth, while Justice has retained a cordial, if less comfortable, relationship with Raise since. Until recently, that is, when Praise killed again... and this time the victim was Stoneface, who argued with him about  keeping his killer's identity secret in the first place. P/Raise pinged him for Adrian Andrews and Praise for Matt Engarde. Now that Raise has been reborn as Dyad, Justice is unsure whether to trust him or not.
Kazahana (Kuchiki Rukia) is another of Justice's colleagues at the Clinic. Additionally she was, for a time, in a relationship with Truth, and that brought she and Justice closer than they might otherwise have become - particularly after Truth was killed. He likes her, trusts her, and has a great respect for her meticulousness with paperwork and skill at healing - despite the resentment that he felt while she was involved with Truth and which he didn't like himself for or understand. They are presently working together on exploring some of the deeper secrets of the Sphere. Kazahana pings him for an odd combination of Mia and Franziska, with a side of Maya.
