Well...I guess I'm here. Hell, I'm on my second fay in fact.
I managed to talk to the people who've been to both the one in LA and the one here and they all pretty much seem to agree that there's a HELL lot more people and that it's been tougher to go through the interview process...which uh, will eventually screw me over I guess :P
I don't really want to talk about the companies I've applied for so far (I'm a bit supersticious in that regard), but the actual events that surrounded my trip's pretty funny so I'll mention that here.
Thursday- 1:00PM-2:30PM
I get off of work, and head straight towards Kohls to buy a few dress shirts+a bag to carry my suit.
Total Cost (~$100)
- 4:00PM
I arrive at the airport, check in for my 5:00PM flight, which was supposed to go from Minneapolis - Philly, then Philly to Boston.
Total Cost (~$450), (although I paid for the flight beforehand)
- 4:40PM
Am told that my flight to Philly has been overbooked and asked if I want to take a flight that goes straight to Boston(!!!) and also receive a complimentary round trip ticket on my next flight with US Airways.
Of course, I accepted.
Total Cost ($450 - Free Tickets!)
-4:40PM - 6:40PM
Since my new flight to Boston is set to depart at 7PM(although the arrival time is only 10 minutes later than my original flight), I spend the next 2 hours just killing time, growing amused as more and more Japanese students come to the gate.
-10:40PM
I arrive in Boston, but told that my luggage is still with US Airways...which is in a terminal 15 minutes away by walking. Since it's late, I walk instead of waiting for the bus.
-11:00PM
I arrive at the US Airways gate...and told they FUCKING lost my luggage. I get really pissed, and try to file a claim so they can look for it...and told that I have to go back to NWA to do that, since that's the flight I came in on.
Aggrevated, I decide to flag a taxi.
-11:30PM
I finish filing the claim with NWA and decide to take the taxe to my hotel...not realizing that it costs $52 to take a cab there. Crap.
Total Cost ($510 +Lost Luggage - Free Tickets!)
-12:00PM
I arrive at hotel, sign in....and later go to sleep for the big day.
Total Cost ($740 +Lost Luggage - Free Tickets!)
Friday -6:00 AM
I wake up and check to see what I do have. Since I carried my suit with me, I had the suit...but no tie and no shoes. I decide to try to buy a new tie on the way to fair, since I had an interview very early.
-6:45 AM
I ask around to see if there's a place where I can buy a tie this early in the morning...to no avail. However, one of the bus drivers I was talking to took pity on me and offered to lend me his tie for the day(!!!). I gratefully accept.
-7:30 AM
I look around for shoes and a portfolio case in various places to no luck. I decide to just go with the black boots I have...and somehow one of the local clerks actually offered to lend me one of the hotel portfolio holders(!!!)
-8:00 AM
More or less ready...I pre-register and enter the fair...
Moral of the story?
Wow, Bostonians are really nice :)
