Apparently Gerard Way cures all ills (who's surprised?) because I just read the first issue of The Umbrella Academy and EEEE! Seriously, it's WONDERFUL! Bizarre and quirky and dense and fast-paced and funny and WONDERFUL. I looooove it, you guys, and I don't read comics! Like, at all! It's just really clever and I can hear Gee's dark, geeky humor shining through like a beacon. The artwork is lovely, both clear and understandable but also just complex enough to keep it really interesting. And dude, is it just me or does Gerard self-identify with Number One, aka Space Boy, aka dude with a gorilla body? I mean, he's the leader of a band of merry misfits, and he's all charismatic and whatnot, and he's got short peroxide blonde/white hair, aaaaand he's totally Gee. ILOVEIT.
I went to Forbidden Planet yesterday (how did I not know it was RIGHT THERE? FAIL!) and REVELED in the geekery (John Sheppard action figure! Spike! Skelanimals, n'aw! Tardises! ♥) and then of course I sought out the new Umbrella Academy to stroke the cover and check if there were any pics of Geeway. And they had all five issues lined up together! First of all: pretty. Second of all, temptation! I kind of hummed and hawwed a bit. The cover of the second one is my favorite, so I ended up buying the first two, haha. And I'm so glad I did, because I want to read the next one RIGHT NOW. (I was however surprised by how expensive they were - over 4 Euro each! That's six bucks! The price on the cover is 3 bucks, boo.)
REWIND! I found Forbidden Planet thanks to
iltaru! I started to tell the story of meeting her last night, but 8 hours and a bunch of alcohol intervened and I never got to, hee. But anyway - I met her and three of her friends at Captain America's where they were having lunch, and we hung out and chatted about things like genderswapping alien fic (as you do), and then we took a stroll and I showed her the place where I got my tattoo so she could go get hers today! Unfortunately, she started feeling really ill because she'd had penicillin + pint of Guinness + a really rich, huge lunch, in that order, so yeah, not so much with the awesome. *pats her poor head* So she and her friend went back to their hostel after pointing me to where Forbidden Planet was. It was really fun to meet her though! Fangirls ftw! Hopefully I'll see her again before she takes off for England :)
I walked the way home today that takes me down the street I directed Gee and Lyn-Z down, and then past the corner where we chatted. It never fails to make me grin like a fool. And, on the way to school, I listened to the Frank And Mikey Interview of Joy. Pretty much those boys bring the sunshine to my day.
As does having a large group of fantastic friends. I still love the sci fi boys, but they're all really busy with their final year projects so I don't actually hang out with them terribly much. On the other hand, my biochem friends (Sinead and company) have schedules that overlap a lot with mine, and they like to spend an hour in the coffee shop, just lounging about and chatting and laughing. It's so relaxing and a wonderful dose of sociability in the middle of my day. It's also mostly girls, plus two awesome guys, so it's just a completely different dynamic and so much fun. They're all so lovely. Yay!
I ALSO watched Torchwood tonight, and all I've got to say is Ianto FTW. I loved it. And Gwen, shut up and stop surviving, dammit. (Er, sorry.)
*YAWN* Oh man, sleep soon.
