The opposite of poetic justice

Mar 19, 2009 07:25

Sometimes, the stars align magnificently and the universe springs forth the sweetest moments of serendipity. Like sitting in a crowded cafe, sipping lukewarm coffee dregs and accidentally bumping eyes with that shy guy at the other end of the room. Your ears fine tune the details of the moment and you realize belatedly that the music playing in the background was that same melody you had in a previous dream. Fast forward a few years, you're kissing that shy boy for the first time and his lips taste exactly like the coffee dregs you had, except his mouth isn't lukewarm. Meanwhile, the radio announcer interrupts his program to tell you that the band responsible for that dream-melody a few years back had their world tour interrupted by having their plane careen out of control somewhere in the Himalayas. That's poetic justice.

The opposite of that is this bullshit.

1. GMA's declaration on the commemoration day of the EDSA revolution: "The world will not forgive another EDSA."

First off, fuck the world. Tupac said it, and Makaveli was never wrong. He not only saw a future with a black American president, he even predicted his death. Secondly, the world doesn't give a fuck about this tiny archipelago in the Pacific except to fuck us in the ass while raping our natural resources, so we may as well return the favor (or fucking us in the ass. Not the resources part, 'cause we don't have the money or the political leverage to do that).

The first EDSA revolution was a way to correct the labeling of the Philippines as a country of 'ten million cowards and one son of a bitch'. The second was to prove that we are a country of ten million cellphone users and one presidential punchline. EDSA 2.5 unfortunately was a revolution of the people-- and by 'people' here, I mean the real people, the real victims of a screwed system, undereducated and discriminated against by their own countrymen-- and that's why it was never a legitimate EDSA. This impending 'third EDSA' would have proven that we are a country who will never stop making asses of ourselves in the name of social justice. I personally have no problem with that, but I suppose people are concerned about our image internationally.

Considering that Filipinos are internationally known for our cheap blue-collar laborers and prostitutes, I can see why another EDSA would dramatically hurt what's left of our national pride. Cheer up, emo-Philippines. At least we've got Charisse Pempengco singing at the Ellen show.

Point is, GMA, a third EDSA would have taken you out. You, least-liked president of the Philippines. This isn't elementary school, you're not disliked because you smell funny and cheat during exams. You're disliked because you rob us blind, kill without discrimination, and cheat during elections.

2. 'Nicole' recants her rape testimony, absolves her American rapist on Women's month.

I-- what--- Girl.

Okay. What's personal is personal, but I heard from a friend of a friend of a second cousin's late uncle that the personal might also be political. Nicole's got her rights. Maybe she got raped, maybe she didn't. But she did get paid 100,000 pesos compensation from the American GI. I wish I could not get raped and get 100,000 pesos too.

Or maybe the renewed Philippine-American Visiting Forces Agreement has the miraculous power to rebuild vaginal walls and people's dignity. Oh, Obama, you magic negro, you.

links, news, personal is political, rant and roll
