one hell of a recovery from less than a month ago when i wasn't sure if i was going to get a 3.0

in other news, bear stearns collapsed, which makes me feel vindicated that i didn't get an internship there this summer, hahaha.
so cori was getting on my case last night about my apathy towards politics. i didn't vote in the primary because when it comes down to it a democrat is going to do what a democrat is going to do, and a republican is going to do what a republican is going to do. the president has hardly any power at all. the congress is where all the power is in the federal government. so a candidate can have whatever great plans they want, but what really matters is who's in control of the congress.
anyway, i told her i'd do some research and try to pick a candidate to get behind. i got my hands on most of the votes since barack obama has been in office, and this is what i found:
265 votes since 1/3/05
213 votes in which both barack and hillary cast
196 votes that they cast the same
that means that 92% of the time, hillary and barack vote in lockstep. i feel that this kind of gives light to "a democrat is going to do what a democrat will do." yes, they've got their rhetoric and semantics, but at the end of the day they vote the same almost every single time. here are the differences that i found:
Raising minimum wage (2005) Hillary AGAINST Barack FOR
Reforming bankruptcy to make it harder to forgive all debts (2005) hillary AGAINST barack FOR
Preventing violent protestors from filing bankruptcy because of their sentence (2005) hillary FOR barack AGAINST
Extending all kinds of tax credits (2005) hillary FOR barack AGAINST
Replacing FEMA with a similar thing under the department of homeland security (2006) hillary AGAINST, barack FOR
Confiscating legal firearms during emergencies (2006) hillary FOR barack AGAINST
Prohibiting the use of cluster amunitions (2006) hillary AGAINST barack FOR
Reducing the number of guest workers from 600K to 200K (2007) hillary AGAINST barack FOR
Denying legal status to immigrants convicted of certain crimes (2007) hillary FOR barack AGAINST
