first impressions of classes.
econ 444 - econometrics. basically, stat 145 on steroids. it blows me away. i mean, all these concepts were so easy and elementary. and now all of a sudden for some reason they're so complicated and out of reach. frustrating. plus i showed up an hour late on the first day so i felt bad. i'm going to have to learn how to ask questions.
econ 556 - cooperation and conflict in the global economy. or at least that's what the title says. turns out, that's not what the course is about. it's about economic globalization. i took it because its an international economics course but what i didn't realize is that this is cross-listed as an international studies course. which means that there are a lot of people in the class who don't understand the nitty gritty economics. which means we have to talk in generalities and the teach has to explain very very basic economic conepts such as comparative advantage. seriously, he spent all day explaining comparative advantage. i was so bored i almost started counting the dots on the ceiling (the class is too small for me to read a magazine... although i think i might be able to get away with it if it's the economist [and if i sit behind a fat guy]). i thought about tranferring into a different class, but i looked a little farther ahead in the syllabus and decided to stay. besides, i could use an easy A.
history 152 - american history after the civil war. not nearly as bad as i thought it would be. the teacher is pretty interesting, he's a weird guy. it's not like my last history teacher who lectured on and on, stating facts about and expeting us to memorize them. he's bringing up new concepts that most other history teachers don't discuss. for example, there a whole section in our text book about the sexual revolution. how many history teachers talk about the sexual revolution?! it's also interesting to see how, in my head during class, i can tie economic principles to the expansion after the civil war. maybe i won't sit in the back row for that one....
i got a pay check today. i can officially pay my credit card bill, and have $16 to spare!
