Opening the door that lead into the rooftop, Ran was met with a cool breeze. For all it was worth, it was a good day to do things outdoors like play frisbee or having a picnic.

Sighing a little, she straightened her uniform skirt a little before actually stepping outside. She hated the thing so much... Looking all preppy like some snobby rich girl. Then again, they were staying at a boarding school.

"Hi." She walked over to him, carrying a giant pool noodle until she threw it down in front of herself. He was going to ask her about it, wasn't he? All she could now was wait for it.

Of course he was. That thing was pretty out of place up on a rooftop, even if it was the summertime. After staring at it for a few moments, he realized that he hadn't greeted Ran yet.

"Hey, Ran. Uh... what's that thing for?"

Groaning, she replied, "Professor Zweistein. He caught me in the hall and said it was homework assignment to carry that pool noodle all over the school." Pointing at it, she added, "...I hate it. And him."

"Oh. Damn." That was certainly unexpected. Who would've thought Zweistein had it in him to take the teaching thing seriously? In his own way, anyway.

"So, uh, you doin' okay otherwise?"

"As good as I can be." Ran ran her fingers through her hair. "I am hungry..." Shifting through her bag, she pulled out a box of the cafeteria's 'day old egg salad'. She hoped he hadn't been expecting her to bring him something.

"Cool, you got the egg salad! I had that yesterday. It was... well, uh... yeah." Kanji quickly decided to drop that topic. Reaching for his tuna casserole, he got ready to chow down.

"You wanna sit down?" He hesitantly offered her a seat, since she seemed to need one.

Shrugging, she took his offer and sat down. Opening the lid, she took a whiff of the food, not liking how it smelled. But she had no choice except to eat this garbage. Taking a spoon from her pocket, she began to scoop it up. "I hope I don't regret this."

"You don't mean comin' up here to eat lunch, right?" Kanji seemed a little anxious all of a sudden. He didn't want Ran to think this whole thing was a bad idea.

Stopping, she looked up and responded quickly, "No! I meant this." She showed off the spoonful of egg salad to him.

Getting a whiff of the spoonful, he understood immediately.

"Heh... yeah, I get it." With a sigh, he took a bite of his casserole. This little lunch date was getting quiet rather quickly...

Chewing some of the egg salad, she stopped abruptly, swallowing as much as she could. It really was as bad as it looked and smelled. Sighing, she got up and threw the box over the edge of the roof, letting it land on the sidewalk below.

Wow, that was actually kinda cool. Ran sure knew how to... uh, express herself. Though, now she had nothing to eat.

"You... want some of this?" He lifted the tuna casserole, wondering if some of his lunch would suffice.

Looking toward him, she stared at the tuna casserole and then at him. Not having the heart to decline, she walked over to him. "Sure. I'm sure it's not past its expiration date either." Sitting down next to him, she lifted the spoon she already had on her and dug in.

Kanji was actually quite satisfied that he could oblige. Putting on a smile, he thought he might be able to start up the conversation again.

"So hey, how about these classes. You tired of 'em yet?"

After swallowing some of what she already took, she glanced over at him. "I am. This is supposed to be a 'prestigious' boarding school... What a joke." She stopped to exhale deeply, going back to eating some more. "I don't mind being schooled, but if they won't take the students seriously, I won't take them seriously either."

"Yeah, exactly." Kanji responded almost immediately. "Hell, what's the point of even keeping us here when we had it better stayin' on the train?"
