Tsuuma had gotten the note, and was rather glad for it. Teaching was not as enjoyable as planned and she needed some time away from it. So she had changed out of her suit and back into her regular dress and had headed to the cafeteria.

She stepped in and looked around, quickly spotting the table he'd set up. She smiled and walked over. She didn't mind that it wasn't something overly elaborate and fancy. She'd had that her entire life and she was a bit more fond of things like this that were more simple.

"Good evening, Madarame-san."

Looking at her, he thought about how beautiful she looked. Tsuuma was just stunning...

Then he looked down at himself, realizing he was not dressed nearly as fancy as she was. Blushing in embarrassment, he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Excuse me for not...dressing accordingly, Tsuuma-san..."

Unfortunately, being overdressed just sort of came with being Tsuuma.

At his comment she looked down at her dress and just gave an awkward smile. "Oh no.. Please... This is just what I'm used to wearing. It's not important." She took a seat. "This is all very nice." And she meant that honestly.

A smile formed as he sighed in relief. Women were usually so hard to please, but it appeared that Tsuuma-san had simpler tastes in life. That was something he admired about her. "Thank you. I'm glad you like it." He went over to his own chair, sitting down on it. "I got you...some BLT sandwiches. It was all they had."

"That sounds wonderful! Thank you." Having set up anything at all for them was more than enough to please her. Little personal things were always best in her opinion. Maybe it was because this was always the sort of thing she and Viral had done, since he couldn't afford much more on his salary, or because her family had worn more frivolous things out on her when she was much younger.

"I hope you've been well since I last saw you. I'm sorry I have not been around much. I've been helping to teach here."

"No, no. I understand completely. I don't expect you to be around me all the time." He picked up his cola, his hand shaking a little. "I used to work...back in my world. If you can believe that."

Tsuuma blinked, "Oh? What sort of work did you do?" She wondered if it was anything like her friends' jobs at home. Those had always been interesting to hear stories about.

Looking toward his laptop, he replied, "Computer programming. It's my specialty, I suppose you can say. Other people are better at it, but I tried. I'm not cut out for work, it was what was expected of me back where I'm from." He put his can down, wiping his mouth with a napkin (to seem more polite). "In Japan, everyone is expected to be successful... My parents always thought I could do better than what I was doing already."

"I see." Tsuuma looked at the laptop. She could relate, to an extent. A lot had always been expected of her due to her social class. But it hadn't been what had made her happy. So she'd left.

"I'm sure there are many things you are good at. It is not your fault if they cannot appreciate that."

"No, it's more like...I've always preferred my hobbies to my job. I'd rather be sitting around watching an anime than doing anything worthwhile." Well, it didn't take him too long to make himself look bad. Grunting, he felt like slamming his head against the table.

Tsuuma stared at her plate for a few moments. "Why.. is that not something worthwhile? It is something that you enjoy, correct?"

Tsuuma had never worked, not really. She'd played the piano at Simon's bar for a while, but she hadn't been paid for it. It had been more of just an excuse to be there. She had never been expected to hold a job, not before or after her marriage. But many of her friends held jobs... And they all still found time for the things that made them happy...

So maybe she was looking at this with an odd perspective, but she didn't know how else to see it.

Smiling sadly, he stared down at his uneaten sandwich. "Not where I'm from. Otaku are frowned upon by most of society. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of who I am! ...It's just that outside of my social circle, I am generally not accepted for being...what I am." Madarame then drank from his can once again. "I wouldn't want you to think that I'd be a bum! If I had a family, I'd try my best to support them!"

"Well what does 'society' matter?" Tsuuma opened her can of soda, drinking from it. "If you let 'society' dictate your life, you will never be happy." And that was something that she felt transcended class, and that she took very seriously. "Do what you love. Do what makes you happiest."

Chuckling lightly, he scratched his neck with his free hand. "I already do. Especially on the train. Hey, how do you like living here right now?" Oh, that was a very good question to ask and he was proud of himself for actually thinking of it.

Tsuuma smiled. "See. And doing what you enjoy has prepared you for this situation." She set her can of soda down. "I'm very happy here. I think if I hadn't arrived here when I did, things would actually have been much more difficult for me."

She picked up her sandwich and unwrapped it. "There are so many interesting people and something is always happening. Are you enjoying it?"

"Usually...when something bad isn't happening..." Madarame stared up at her momentarily before moving onto his own meal. "A lot has happened, I've heard of. Like that killer that came on board once, the giant robot spider, some Nazi... And I think more's to come." He hoped he wasn't scaring her with his comments, but he felt he needed to share his hunch with her, for her own safety.
