Long time no write...

Well hello there,

I am not sure when the last time was that I wrote, but livejournal tells me it was four weeks ago...A MONTH! That is a long time.

I passed Christmas in San Jose Calderas with a plethora of small fireworks and firecrackers. I missed my family a lot during the holidays but I was able to call them and talk to most of the family on Christmas Eve. I gave presents to all of my family in Guatemala and they really appreciated it.

On December 27, I hopped on a bus and went to Guatemala City where I took a TicaBus to San Salvador, El Salvador. I spent the night there and met Saddy and Shingo, a Nicaraguan girl and a Chinese guy about my age. I met them when I went to the Pulperia to eat dinner. Us three went out and went to a bar that night. I had to wake up REALLY early the next day to leave at 5 am to go to Managua. Us three happened to be sat next to each other so it was a lot of fun. I arrived in Managua and Maria came and picked me up from the station.

I stayed with her family who was nice enough to help me BOIL all of my clothes. As of now, knock on wood, I am scabies free. I think. But it sure did wreck some of my clothes. On the 30th I headed to San Juan del Sur with her family (minus her parents). We stayed at a really nice hotel. On the way there, we got stopped by the cops and they wanted to detain me for not having my passport with me. Ugh. It was a touch scary but Maria helped me out a bit. In San Juan del Sur, we partied it up. On the night of the 30th we went to a party with all of Managua's elite children. It was really fun. It was at a club on the beach and it was all you can drink Flor de Caña. There was a girl who sang too. It was fun.

The next day we went to the beach late and then went out again only we rang in 2008 a lot more chill. I went to the beach after we went to a bar and a few of us drank on the beach including Gabriel, a cool Costa Rican, and Tamara, a cool Nica who is living in Costa Rica.

The next day everyone but me paid $40 to surf. I tried a bit with someone elses board but was not successful cuz I did not take the classes.

After we went back to Managua, Maria and I went to Laguna de Apoyo. I stayed the night and she went back to Managua. I went on to Granada where I spent the time at the Bearded Monkey hostel and went out with some really cool people including an Argentinian girl and a guy from California. After Granada I took a TicaBus here to San Jose where I met Zach at the airport on the 7th.

Since he arrived we went to Volcan Arenal in La Fortuna. There we HIKED all the way to the waterfall. It was a hot hike but well worth it when we got to the waterfall and could swim. Then we went on to Monteverde where we explored the Cloud Forest and then took a canopy zip line tour high over the rain forest. It was spectacular and WELL worth the $30 splurge. We flew across the rain forest in the air and belayed down a huge tree and I even swung on the tarzan swing. I thought I was going to dry on that one cuz you are up on this platform and they push you and you just free fall for a couple of seconds and then swing. SCARY but fun.

After that Zach and I went to the Nicoya Peninsula where we went to a rodeo with our taxi driver out in the middle of nowhere. It was quite fun. We got to swim in the ocean a bit before coming back to San Jose to chill. Um, or fear for our lives the first night cuz we stayed at the luxurious hooker hotel Hotel Principe. That was the first, and hopefully LAST time I will ever stay in a hotel with 2 and 3 hour rates and vinyl covered beds. Ick. After that we moved to the Mansion hotel, haha, and today I brought him to the airport. I am sad to be without my partner in crime once again, but I am also excited to begin my travels. Today I am going to head to the carribean coast town of Puerto Viejo and then cross over in the next few days into Panama via Sixoala.

I hope all is well. I love you all!

Yani.
