"Maybe that's what Hell is..."

"...Spending eternity in fucking Bruges..."

Just polished off In Bruges a while ago, and sat in shock for about forty minutes.

Recently, I added Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to my list of favorite movies; In Bruges is way, way better than KKBB.  Way better.

So here's how I would summarize the movie without summarizing the plot:

1:  Comedy.  Lots of comedy, the kind of stuff that you feel bad about laughing at, and may be somewhat insulted by as you laugh.
2:  Plot.  Nothing mind-blowing here.  Everyone knows, deep down, that there are movies where the characters exist to move the plot, and there are movies where the plot exists to move the characters.  This is certainly the latter, which takes me to the real prize-winner...
3:  Characters (and their actors).  You will watch the movie.  You will bond with the primaries.  And not just the protagonists; no, no, you will bond with the antagonists.  You will see their relationships, and shit, you will feel some emotion.  You will really care about what happens to them.  And the best part:  they are real to the audience, because the actors are all uncanny in their portrayals.  Just... wow.

So yeah.  That's about it.

(When you first read the quote at the top of this page -- the title and all -- and you haven't seen the movie, you'll think to yourself, "Heh."  If your first reaction to the quote was similar to that, i.e. mild amusement, I urge you to go see the movie, and experience the skill of the writer, Martin McDonough.  That is all)
